today has been one of my worst riding days in a long time.

1) ... couldn't start my bike i the morning, dead battery... 2 push starts later we make a move to winchester.

2) leave winchester oil light comes on 2 miles down the road... back to winchester for a litre of oil...

3) come of the motorway and try to slow down for the first roundabout.... wheres my clutch gone Shocked pull the lever... nothing happens.

had to crank it through the gears into first, then into neutral to push it to the side of the road.

the clutch is fully engaged... and i can't disengage it with the lever. However the cable is still attached, and when i pull the lever it is still springy (on the mechanism on the left hand side of the bike) but it doesn't disengage the clutch.

now my bike is 12 miles away and i'm stuck for transport till i can afford to get it fixed Evil or Very Mad

anyone have any ideas on the problem?

i hate sundays sometimes.

I can't help thinking that points 2 and 3 are somehow related. The oil light on a 4-stroke bike is not there to tell you to put some oil in, it indicates that your bike has dangerously low oil pressure and you should stop NOW before you do any more damage.

I hope never to see the oil light on any of my bikes.

Some yamaha,s like my Thunderace (oil burner!) use a oil level float switch which will only come on if the bike reqiures a top up.

Interesting, I didn't know that. Any I have seen are a pressure switch.

When this happened to me it cost £402. New everything with my clutch.

However hopefully it doesnt cost you the same amount.

it's a brand new clutch, plates/springs/cable. had it about 2 weeks. The oil switch is oil level (checked weekly) not pressure.

have to phone up insurance company and get the free breakdown cover... but the bike is alarmed 12 miles away and i have no way of getting there and have work at 4:30 this afternoon

As above, the FZR600 is an oil level light. Same for just about every Yamaha I have seen (certainly on the FZ750, XJ600 Divvy, and FZR1000Exup).

They probably just overordered many years ago when they were mainly building 2 stroke Laughing .

All the best
