Recently my brother's old 1980 CG125 engine seized up totally. rather then get it rebored, we've tracked down another cg125.

But its a 1993 edition!

Will this make a difference? can we just switch over the engines?

Cheers for input

It should fit in the frame yes, but make sure it hasnt got obvious differences like electric start etc. Some things like electrical connectors etc might (read almost certainly) be different.

Have you tracked down a whole new bike, or just the new engine?

A 1993 engine will be a Brazilian model (BR-J or BR-K), but the 1980 bike won't be. (K1/B/C/E) I'll have a look in the Haynes manual tomorrow to see what it says, the only difference I can think of at the minute might be the ignition, but I'm not really sure about that. Obviously both have kickstarts, wheel driven speedo and neither have any tachometer.

I suppose a worry is if one is points ignition and the other is electronic. I would check if I were you.

I would like to think if this is the case that you could just put the stator plate and cam lobe off the older engine onto the new one but don't count on it. The other option would be to rewire the old bike, which would be a pain but do-able.
