thugs on bikes like what the hells angels used to be back in the day? Are their any bike clubs still about that do that sort of thing? beat people up and cause trouble an stuff? because even hells angels and outlaw and scorians and all those other "look at me i'm ard with my harley" bike gangs of today are just normal bikers!! just normal enthuiassts.
A mate was bragging that his bike club wasn't like all those usual clubs that go around smashing up cars and beeting people up.
lol think he's confused with how it used to be with bike clubs.

anyone ever seen a bike club like that?

But a small tip, posting on a forum like this you never know who might be reading your words.

Certain clubs have developed a far more public freindly image, whilse still maintaining an element of the 'old style' bike clubs (your words).

It's entirely possible that you may never get to see the less public face of these clubs, and if you did, you would very likely regret it.

I would suggest you go along to either the Bulldog Bash (Hells Angels) or the Rock and Blues (Outlaws) rallies.

Bike clubs these days tend to put forward a much better 'public face' - so we're talking a mafia portraying it's self as a misunderstood charity Smile.

However that does mean you shouldn't really have any trouble, unless you're doing something dodgy yourself.

I think part of the problem is that they never really existed in the way that some people think they did....

If you read 'hells angels' by hunter thompson (mentioned in major grooves book thread in off topic) he writes alot about the way the media portrayed these gangs back in the 60s/70s.... they really went out of their way to exaggerate what went on, there were stories of the angels ransacking whole towns and inciting riots, when in reality all if took was for a few bikers to be present when there was any kind of trouble (and there was alot more trouble back then) and they would pin it on them. I think there was alot of unrest at the time across the whole population, but to keep everyone calm, it was easiest to pin it on one select group and go after them- people need a common enemy.

I'm not saying they arent violent people, alot of these guys were career outlaws, they did some bad stuff and they still do (although mostly in America). I can't remember when/where, but not so long ago there was that incident involving bazookas.....

With the best will in the world, peeps, I would suggest that you stop talking shite.

You have no idea of what you are talking about, or, as Babyyam said, any idea of who is reading this forum.

bit dramatic Rolling Eyes

No one is claiming to have inside knowledge on outlaw biker gangs, I'm just sharing some info I have from reading a well respected book on the subject.

(me waits for the harleys to tear up my lawn any second) Razz Rolling Eyes

As far as I can see nothing offensive was said anyway.

With the best will in the world I suggest you stop sensationalising the subject of such an ordinary question/discussion in your patronising tones.

Who gives a toss who's reading the forum, there's been no comment in this thread that would upset even the most ardent 'Gang Member'.

I'll await receipt of a threatening PM from Chief Rabid Doberman of the Dog Kennel Gang - Jesus Rolling Eyes

You do that - just don't say you were not warned.

Those of us who have some knowledge of these clubs know better than to spout our mouths off.

Opinion was sought and given. I never asked you to like it.

You didn't give any opinion other than to condescendingly tell people to 'stop talking shite'.

If you believe that you have more knowledge on the subject then feel free to impart it as that was hardly the most impressive of responses from someone implying understanding when it comes to this particular topic.

Why join the thread then Sadie?

I hardly think members of a hardened Biker Gang are going to be even acutely bothered by the ramblings of a few on an Internet Forum especially when the thread wasn't denigrating them.

Your response was dramatic and excessive and as far as I can see you just wanted forum members to know that you are in a position of knowledge and therefore seniority on this particular subject.

If you think that then you definitely don't know your subject.

No - but I have seen less experienced bikers get themselves into trouble on this subject before. My advice was a warning.

Believe me, at the grand old age I am I do not need to try to impress the forum members on here! Laughing

Do they exist? Yes, whatever 'they' are.

Do you talk about it? No.

Simple.

Interesting source of reference. Have you sought out Sonny Barger's opinion on Mr Thompson at all? You should be able to find something if you google.

Let's just say it's somewhat "colourful"! And that you saying that the media were much responsible for portraying the image of the Angels could be seen as somewhat ironic if you look at if from a certain angle.

There are a number of good / interesting reference sources about the so-called "outlaw" clubs, once again google is your friend and have a look for some of the writings of Dr Maz harris, you might be surprised.

Another interesting read is https://www.thevacuum.org.uk/issues/issues0120/issue11/is11artangfly.html

Australia has a very big 'bike gang' problem I believe; a fair bit worse than in America as far as I know.

Personally, I don't care who reads this - they beat me up for saying something on here; their mistake, probably. I could do with a 'purpose' in life Smile.

They kill me for saying something on here; their mistake, I reckon. For a start they would be doing it with very little provocation, considering some of the 'information' made publicly available. Then there's the fact that someone is putting themself under a severe risk of getting caught over a piffling matter.
You would also think they have to worry slightly about an unnecessary 'gang war' - when I'm sure they'd much rather keep police official attention limited to the times when there's big money from drugs etc at stake.

I would hope that the big gangs at least would have the intelligence to not 'act up' on this sort of thing.

I realise that any random person may be able to read this - the only thing I'd seriously sensor is something along the lines of "I'll be riding illegally/dangerously at location X at time Y" - though even doing this I doubt the police would do anything unless it was something really serious I was proposing.
I refuse to censor what I say incase an illegal organisation decides to do me some damage - I realise in some parts of the world you do, much as I'm cynical about the UK, I do not believe we are in that situation in this case.

[edit]I shall be interested to see if anything 'does' happen after my comments! Razz
But of course it did, it would entirely justify my comments and make more people believe them Smile.

No, I'm not taking this very seriously, we shall see if it's my mistake or not.
[/edit]

I am aware that after writing the book, his popularity with the angels diminished.... but that doesn't change the fact that he lived among them, counting alot of them as friends, for a long time while he wrote his book. And yes, it all ended in tears when they beat the shit out of him. But still, most of the book was spent defending the angels and I'm pretty sure its one of the most unbiased accounts available. Thats what made it such a big hit, after all- a break from the sensationalism that was coming from both sides.

This thread is getting pretty silly- its a harmless discussion on an online chat forum! suggestions that there might be repercussions for what is said here are rediculous Very Happy Thats all.
