Someone posted figures that claim speed cameras have no effect in preventing accidents at road works on motorways.
I was passing the guys servicing the lights on M8 Glasgow last week. The traffic was slowed by overhead warnings and the 3rd lanes next to the armco were closed on both sides.
Speed restriction and cameras etc are not only there to catch speeders or prevent accidents.
I you have ever had to experience what it's like to work in this location when traffic is bombing past you'll know why the restrictions are imposed.
I've had the misfortune of having to do that once and after that I always stick to the posted limit.
These guys are only doing their job and deserve some respect. It could be one of us out there.

Of course this didn't stop the 'overpaid' twat in the hairdresser Porsh-ah that whizzed past me whilst I was in 'Civil-mode'.
He was 'nutmegged' by a swift Triumph Sprint up the inside about a mile later. Ya fat Prick! If you're reading this.

a valid point. however, what annoys me is the fact these limits are imposed 2 miles before any traffic works even appear (even then theres normally no-one there/working) once they are there i have no probs slowing to 50mph, but when we are inconvenienced unnecesarily it does my head in.

but point taken.

Agree with you there, no reason to make their job more dangerous that it is allready...

Works that have been unattended for a week with the sighs still up piss me off a bit (you have to break the limit or get driven into by the million people behind)

Indeed.

I'd say that at least 3 times out of 4 that I go through such road works there is no workers there.
By keeping the limits though, it is suggesting to people that they aren't really endangering lives and so people get comfortable going through them faster.

Agreed. My other issue would be the 50mph signs that are switched on either 15miles before an accident or 9 times out of 10 totally at random. People slow down for all of 1 mile before deciding it's a mistake and speed back up.
