 |

Sorry for being a FORUM EATER
But just another quick question just brought some performance clutch springs for my gilera dna 50 of malossi and i was wondering what kind of performance this will give me? My set up so far is:
Fully derestricted Engine
Performance exhaust
Up Jetted
Performance Rollers.
I though with all this why not give it some clutch spring to finsh her off, the set that i brought comes with 3 sets of springs, oh hell just look at the link:
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7993593717&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT
OK so will these springs really give me better response?
Thankyou Martin. ____________________ I drive a ped with a smile |

You don't gain any speed or anything with clutch springs, it just controls where the clutch bites. The stiffer the springs the more revs you need to pull away. I had black clutch springs in my delta clutch a while ago which was great for sprinting, however you needed over 6000rpm to get moving which was a bit pants for the road as there was no power down the bottom of the revs and in the wet it was very easy to spin the rear wheel out. Got green spings in now and its still quick, but there is power lower down the revs and its more fun on the road.
I can't remember which colours are which level of stiffness, but someone else will know. Kye is probably the best person on here to ask.

Don't get confused of course between the clutch being used in an auto (CVT) and a conventional clutch being used with a manual gearbox.
Stronger clutch springs will reduce clutch slip when the clutch is left out. That certainly equals easier wheelies and burnouts at any rate. In normal use it'd just be more work holding it in when stationary and during slow control.
They could also be used to hide the effects of burnt/ worn plates too I suppose, as well as simply upgrading the clutch to stand more torque before it does slip in normal use (Kickstarts Bandit 1200 springs to mind).
Basically that's a long way around saying for an centrifugal clutch, it'll just take more engine speed before the springs are deflected far enough to allow biting. What he said. More rapid getaways perhaps. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

So your saying that the stiffer the springs then the better acceraltion or as you say better wheelies I say this because i need better acceraltion, who dosent right and like you see the set comes with 3 diffrent types of springs and i need to know the softer or stronger for acceraltion? ____________________ I drive a ped with a smile |

Softer springs will mean you set off at lower engine speed -> lower acceleration as less power is being developed.
Stiffer springs will mean you set off at higher engine speed -> greater acceleration as more power is being developed.
As Divuk83 says though, having to rev the engine that much higher before you set off might get annoying. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Thanks alot for answering to my post so quickly, I will experiment with the 3 sets, with the stiffiess first of course
I dont know if i have said in this thread but these springs will be fitted to a gilera dna , with a heavy front i can wheelie it with holding the rear brake and letting it out when it hits high rpm and also by glueing my feet to the floor and lifting it up but nothing like normal moped e.g. nrg's typhoons etc which just flick up straight away. Well what i am getting at here is will these springs lift the beast my that i mean the overweight dna? ____________________ I drive a ped with a smile |
