well i was going to say WD40, umm try WD again and let it soak in for a bit.. It sounds to me that its either your key, so locks siezed(1) or that you have a vacum on your tank(2).

1. Put WD40 on ur key, insert key into tank, and kep repeating.
2. Turn petrol off, pull cable off, and drain petrol into a container. If your lucky this should destroy a vacum.

I had a similar problem on a hire bike. Is the cap the type with the six or so bolts around the outside fixing it to the tank? If you can feel some movement when you turn the key it may be possible to slaken the bolts and it could open. Beware though as probably 3 of them are only there for show!

Have exactly the same problem with my NSR, 'specially on hot days it just doesn't open. Opens only some of the time, and usually decides to lock up when i'm at a petrol station and leaves me looking like a right twat standing there trying to open my petrol cap!

I've tried WD40 and everything, but it still plays up occasionally..

If u find a solution i would appreciate it if u could tell me 2, Thanks mate. Thumbs Up

My solution was to carry round a ratchet screwdriver with an allen key bit in it to loosen the housing and it would normally open.

The bike went back so I wont be able to make any progress on the problem.

I know what you mean when you said you felt a twat in the petrol station. The same happened to me, lucky me too was on reserve. When I phoned the hire firm the arseholes asked to ride 46 miles (on reserve Rolling Eyes ) to the nearest honda dealer.

So I took great delight in sending it back with the hero blobs ground almost right off (they were too long anyway!) and even managed to gring a flat on the gear selector during the kneedown in my avatar!

Wink

Thanks for the tips guys.
Unfortunately none of them worked, the lock was jammed fast.
I ended up prising it off with a screwdriver, anyone got a spare petrol cap for sale Confused
