I had a race can on, but I prefer the stock can.
Race cans are too loud, piss people off (and me sometimes), and attract the police.
I do like the sound, but I could definitely see how it could annoy people. In the future it would have to be stock or perhaps one of those road legal intermediate cans (for tart value ). |

NOt being funny but how many times do you hear "I didnt see you" and a bike splattered all over the road!!!!! Well as far as a can is concerned you can f~cking hear me If they can hear you they will look for you plus a good can will free up an restriction the bike has from the original can. Its not the tart factor you want tart factor look at people with custom sprayjobs and annodised bolt kits!!!! not my thing but if people what that olet them do it. |

A combination of both.
Originally I wanted a can for the additional noise, particularly for when I am riding through town or in heavy traffic. Since fitting mine I have had fewer cars pull out on me or do silly things whilst I am filtering. I noticed that suddenly I was getting eye contact with some drivers - that's got to be worth the money.
The can also ironed out my power delivery and significantly reduced a flat spot that I had been suffering at 7000rpm, which was particularly noticable as in 5th gear it is at 7k that I am doing 70mph. ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

I had a Micron on my T/cat which was tarty as Bett Lynch and have stock on my Triumph ST.
I have never noticed a single bit of difference this 'noise factor' makes.
People still step off into my path. I think the noise is not so significant.
(What if the person is a deef?)
More attention to road conditions is of more value than relying on being heard.
They're tarty, a little self indulgent and really should be kept for a track. And over priced I may add.
Don't do our PR a bit of good.
Smoothing out power? My T/cat was cool enough with the stock fitted.

I got my race can for the sounds, but after fitting, realised it looked far better than stock. I was sick of the bandit not making any noise other than from the engine, so I went for a road legal scorpion can. Its loud, but not offensively loud. Also have the option to make it quiet again with the DB killer. Was planning to get it dynojetted with a K&N but I'm sick of throwing money at the thing.
I dont have any problems around here, or whenever I'm out riding. ____________________ Aprilia RSV Mille R Edwards Replica - Aprilia RS250 - Suzuki GSXR600 Supersport Race Bike |

When I ride through town, I love my can. Yes, it's quite loud, but kids look. Kids generally don't run infront of something they're looking at. That's my biggest fear, I couldn't live with myself if I killed a child. ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

Hi
Peak power changes are minimal, and unless a standard system is really bad (Bandit ones for example) then the race can is not going to make that much difference. A race can on its own is unlikely to smooth out the power delivery, other than by pure luck (and just as likely to make it far worse). Sometimes people will notice an apparent large increase in peak power, but often what they are feeling is a large loss in mid range power followed by a kick up to a barely changed peak power (in a race with a skilled rider the extra peak power might well be worthwhile, but most people will be slower).
Really do not think that the noise makes that much difference. Suspect that most of the difference new riders notice when they switch to a race can is actually an improvement in their observation and the way they deal with hazards as they gain experience. Most people in a modern car (decent stereo and well soundproofed cabin) will probably not hear a bike with a race can. Most of the sound from the pipe is aimed backwards, away from what you are riding towards.
The Bandit does have a full Akrapovic system on it. Most of the time the road baffle is in place. Not worried about the few hp I am loosing and I will put up with the flat spot that the road baffle causes (especially when cold) to avoid annoying everyone around me.
All the best

What about looks....?
Mines is going to look and sound better than standard. On the way home last night I was sitting at the lights with a CBR600 which sounded soooo much better, I miss that burble from a race can when its just ticking over..... ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

I have ordered a full Laser Pro-duro system for my KLE this week (hopefully there tomorrow or saturday). I have ordered the 'sports' one for a variety of reasons. Roughly in order:
Stainless steel so wont rust
Sports is £40 cheaper than the road legal.
Sports is about 4kg lighter than road legal.
Will make the bike sound more like a bike.
Might give a bit more power (standard pipe is VERY restrictive).
Quite likely to improve fuel economy.
No one has mentioned the fuel economy thing yet. I went on a run with a mate of mine who was on an identical bike, the only difference being I was on a standard can and he had a 'noisy' one. We rode round together so exactly the same mileage at exactly the same speeds. When we filled up, I had used a litre more fuel every time (on a bike with a 100 mile tank range, that is a huge difference). ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink.
