OK heres the story. I have been riding a suzuki RF600R for a few days and have done about 500 miles in that time. Now after my 125 it was an absolute revalation so quick and easy. But thats the problem. it is just too easy to ride. Another 500 miles and I will probably be getting the best from it. I just hope it does not become boring. I guess I will be getting a litre bike when I can afford it then. Don't say I am being rediculous because I know I am. This is just how I feel though.

What makes you think you're getting the best from it? You'll be surprised how far the limit is on most modern machinery and how much they can be pushed.

It will become easy to make go fast and will get boring, then you'll get a litre bike and find that aint much less boring fairly quickly.
Well, that's what I did anyway.

When you got some decent confidence with corners - try a trackday for a whole different level of riding!

I know I am quite a way away from the bikes ability at the mo. Perhaps fitting a new rear tyre will make it more fun. Ah well we shall see. I am probs making something out of nothing. I was just expecting it to have as much difficulty getting used to this as I did with my 125 a while back.

Riding, boring???? Rolling Eyes I dont think I could be bored of a bike, even when I had my little RXS100 I wasnt bored of it when i came to sell it. True, the excitement goes a little bit, i remember the first week or so on my ZZR, every time I went out on the bike it was like a challenge to learn about the bike whereas now although I'm alot more used to the bike I still have fun every time I ride it! Very Happy

Maybe it's not the bike but the roads which are the problem? A trip to the Peak/ Lake District or to the Northwest of Scotland might provide a little more entertainment than Norwich.

I'd agree with that. You're always bored of the places you know - thats why people like going to new places/days out.

Actively hunt for a piece of road you really like to ride, and ride it. While you're at it, go find a load more roads you like to ride - organise some ride-outs with other people from the forum...

... and yeah, there's always trackdays to humble you. Wink

After riding a GPZ500s for seven years and riding bikes for 11 years, I have only just started to find the limits of the handling of this bike on the road. I can tell this because I am starting to slide the back end through some corners and have had the front wash-out on a few occasions if I have been pushing it hard. As I say, this tells me I am STARTING to find the limit on what is a comparatively slow bike.

I suspect what you mean is you are getting accustomed to the power delivery and travelling at speed which is an entirely different thing.

Agreed, you may be very good at going flat out in a straight line.

But have the pegs touched down yet? Has your knee touched down yet? Has the back wheel slid yet?

If there are any/many no answers to those questions you are nowhere near pushing the boundaries.

I seriously suggest a trackday if you really want to see what you and your bike are capable of.

I've got a theory: If you think you've completely mastered or become the best at something, you haven't. Karma

Unless you're Rossi.

I have slid the rear ( might be the worn tyre) and had it cranked over while cornering. I guess I phraised it wrong. Its just been easier to get to where I am with the bike then I really expected it to be.

go and do a trackday and you will be surprised at how much faster you can push it i though that about my CBR 250 and then i took it to a trackday and realised it could be pushed heaps more.
As to getting used to it quickly you probably learnt alot of your basic riding skills on your 125 and have been able to trasfere them to the new bike dunno maybe thats it.
cheers Very Happy

I only ride a small 400cc bike, but its limits are still better than mine - despite the pace I sometimes like to ride at and the bigger bikes that it embarasses down a decent country lane.

And 400s aren't as slow as I first thought, not when I learnt to ride properly. Sliding the back is not the limit of the machinery - far from it. In the right hands, they could still lap the Isle of Man at over 110mph (average) - okay, they're tweaked a bit, but still, I'm no where near that pace, but it's fun trying.

I didn't start to learn to ride my NC30 'properly' until about 6 months after ownership - and my RVF still surprises me sometimes (who ever thought a road going 400 could hoist its front (albeit a miniscule 6 inches or so) when powering hard over crests, with a nice little shimmy and shake from the bars to make you think you're nearing its limit).

Try riding down some roads that require effort to break the ton - then you'll see how close to the bike's limit you are.
