best way to restor my down pipes

Autoglym metal polish or autosol metal polish + rags + elbow grease Very Happy

I think you can also use autoglym super resin polish to give another protective coating.

I got some autosoul. doesn't seem to do much. how long should I leave it on for.

No short cuts.
Get a rag and put polish on and rub into the metal.
Then get a clean cloth and buff off.
Apply pressure when putting on and taking off.
Rusty bits will require more work.
