Anyone else suffer from tingling hands/wrists. I usually get slight pins and needles in my right wrist after about 20 miles riding my 2002 fuel injected R1. I know its a sports bike, i,m also 40 years of age, maybe somethings telling me to get a cruiser. Anyone else get this, is it a sign of a medical condition (carpel tunnel etc). It doesnt happen in the left wrist/hand. Any docs out there!!

sometimes it can be sorted by buying different grips, thin grips have less damping effect.
you can also get cramping by having thick grips so its difficult.
also depending on how your bars fit you can sometimes put a thin shim of rubber under them, (push bike innertube) you have to keep an eye on the tightness of the bolts though, it worked for me on my gpz 900r

It's the vibration of the bike.

Although it could be a trapped nerve. My Dad had that at 40.

There is a medical condition which has similar symptoms, I would chat to your doctor about it. But would also check how you grip the handlebars, you basically shouldnt be gripping them too tightly, and also check that you have give at the elbow, if you arms are stretched out, you should consider adjusting your handlebars. Because it wont get any better, and wont go away!

I think you need to learn to ride in a different way.

If you are supporting the weight of your upper body with your arms then your wrists will hurt a bit after a while.

There is a different technique which involves no stress on your wrists.

To practise, try sitting on your bike, gripping it with you knees and leaning forward over the tank with hands by your sides not on the bars.

Your lower back is supporting your upper body. Then bring your hands up and put them on the bars, but dont put any weight on them.

If you use this on the road its also easier to turn as your arms just turn the bars and arent bearing your weight.

You might not ride like this all the time but its good to take the weight off your wrists at least sometimes.

When you get used to all the different seating postions on a sports bike, it can actually be more comfortable than a sit up and beg bike, because you can just change position whenever you get a bit uncomfy.

With a sit up and beg bike, you only have one postion.

It'll be high frequency vibrations through the handlebars. I got it sometimes too, especially if I am sitting at the same speed for a long time (eg motorway).

Fit a heavier set of bar end weights, this will alter the frequency at which the bars start to vibrate and should make the problem go away (or change to a different part of the rev range that you hopefully don't use as much).

Eye, have the same problem meself. Did make a post on here about it about a month or two ago, so if you have the energy to search for it that might have a few suggestions.

I find its not so bad now on the ZX-6R now its been run in. I've also found that it helps to sit as far back as possible in the seat and try to put more weight on the legs (as recommended above I believe as well). Also I found that it helped to be as tucked in as possible and try to keep the wrist and hand fairly straight to each other. Still bloody awful sometimes though when I go for the front brake and there's not much bloody feeling in the hand.

Pins and needles in your right hand. At least they aren't titanium. Laughing My wrists aren't in a good enough shape for sportsbikes at all. My left wrist is still aching from a 300 mile trip on a Fazer a week ago. Confused Neutral

I get it sometimes as COLINWALL said its leaning on the bars that causes it for me. I grip the tank with my knees and support my body but then as soon as I break for a junction my weight shifts onto my hands. I go round then continue to lean on the bars till I remember to grip the tank again. Still I've only been riding for 2 months so maybe I'll get the hang of supporting myself more

Whwn I bought my bike last years after a wee break of 4 years I encountered the same problem, talking here and there about it I was told to go and buy a pair og nylon glooves but to make sure they fitted firmly (no ideas please guys/gals) so I found myself all alone in Debs where I asked a luvly female to help me, she thought I was afetr some sexy nickers but I assured her it was not to be, ok back to the point, got a pair of 'going out' black nylon glooves, fitted just right and worked a treat but I have noticed the more you ride the less the rpoblem becomes, Im thinking possibly a hand exerciser of some sort should do well..

Hi

I have been getting it as well recently. Always got it on the Bimota if I use it on the motorway, but then that has stuff all to absorb the vibration. However also been getting it on the FZR (dirty great handlebar weights) and the ZZR (very smooth engine). On the ZZR it seems to be caused by carrying my weight on my wrists.

All the best

Keith

if you arent supporting yourself with your wrists, the vibration will have less of an effect as you wont be gripping so tightly

Hi

Don't think it is the vibration on the ZZR (it is very smooth), think it is just the position on my hand on the bar cutting off the blood supply.

Almost certain it is vibration on the Bimota though.

All the best

Keith
