help me chose a new bike. i'm so indecisive

ok seeing as i'm 17 soon i've been think about upgrading to a new bike. its got to last atleast till i leave uni in 5 years time.

choices so far have been aprilia rs 125: gilera runner 180(i'm taking my test) : derbi super moto 125


Now at the moment my favourite so far it the derbi but there are two questions i have about it

1) I recently saw a topic where someone had a 34bhp aprilia supermoto 125. Is it possible to get the derbi derestricted to around 33bhp.

2) i saw a derbi 125 supermoto in france whilst on holiday and i absolutely fell in love with it, yet i'm unable to find either an english version of a derbi website or a dealer close to me (canterbury, kent) to go and have a look at the bike. so could somebody please help me out.

Whilst in france on holiday i had the chance to ride my yamaha ty250 trials bike( the seat is not at low as on gas gas's etc), but about knee height when on the pegs) on the road (to get to the mountains) and really enjoyed it through the twistys at 50 so i know that i'll like the set up of the supermoto.

Guessing your going for your A2 (33bhp).
Personally wouldnt stick to a 125 2t, Have alook the 400 range. Maybe naked 6's, bandit etc. Insurance isnt that bad honestly, been there, still doing that
You'll have to restrict these, but you'll have more fun and hey once the 2yr restriction is up throw em' out if you already havent (after 30seconds )

I had a NSR125 and there good fun. Not quite as fast but far far more reliable than the RS. Do a search on the site for them, there is LOADS of info on them since so many people on this site had one.

going2fast insurance for me on a bandt woul be around £1200 yet on a 125 it would be around £200, btw i still ride a restricted 50 so speed doesn't really both me so long as i can cruise at 65/ 70 and handle the twisties

If you're going to pass your test and want a bike to last a bit, then I wouldn't go for a 125.

I'd go for a bigger bike and restrict it, that way you can almost get a whole new bike when your restriction is up for a start.

Really not sure to be honest with you chap, sorry. Can only suggest a good ol' google search for the bhp of a Derbi SM.

You may want to take alook here FI International . These people make restriction kits, they are not the only person and you DONT have to use them. I believe as long as your bikes runs at 33bhp on a Dyno police can not say anything. Anyways you can see what bikes can be restricted, can restrict TL 1000's etc.

Also a bike close to 33bhp will (should) restrict better.

But the Derbi won't last 5 years without £1000's of repairs on it, it's a 2 stroke 125, it's just the way it goes.

If you have to go for a 125 get a 4 stroke like the NSR, but I think you'd be well put to buy a 400.

i think he means the 4t derbi 125 , the new one that uses a xr125 engine.

and the NSR is a 2stroke....

Where did I get this idea that NSRs are 4 stroke!? That is the seoncd time I've done it, in 2 minutes!

i'd agree nsr would be a good choice. I recently had a go on one, and it feels more practical for general riding even if it doesnt have the thrills of an rs.

The nsr is easier to use, as it has a more upright seating position, it has more low rev power and doesnt have the sudden powerband kick of an rs.
