After riding the VFR for a while now I have noticed that the tank needs to be topped up regularly, the shape maybe of the tank or maybe the way the fuel enters the tap can’t be brilliant. Say for example I fill it up, say 7 pounds worth maybe more, the ride is smooth in acceleration and corners etc, then it gets to reserve, you should get a fair few miles with no problems when switched over but as the fuel floats around reserve and normal I loose some power, it gets gradually worse so I have to top up. This means there is a good amount of fuel in there I never use and I need to refill to get that kind of ride again.

Anyone else have this problem or similar, I thought if you don’t I might have some crap in the tank or something.

Sounds like you have some debris in your reserve pipe.

My ZXR performed the same on reserve as it did on normal.

Hi

Yep, sounds like rubbish in the tank. Run it down towards reserve then take it off the bike and empty it (couple of petrol cans). Take the fuel tap out and clean it up. Put the clean fuel back into the tank (water will sink to the bottom of the petrol cans).

This is what was left floating in the bottom of the GPZs fuel tank. Most of that is water.

All the best

Keith

Trick to clean any rust out of the tank is to use car radiator cleaner.
Put some in the tank with hot water (from kettle). Put cap on tank and shake around. This turns the rust into solution which can be poured out. Shake out the crud and then rise out with meths. This will absorb the water left in the tank. As said clean out the tap and tube and then put back together.

I'd also run it with a petrol additive for the first few fills (e.g. Silkolene FST Pro).
