My exhaust pipes are very rusty underneath, (in middle of belly pan),.. and they are getting worse.
More worrying, I have noticed a hole appear today, about the size of my small fingernail in one of the exhaust pipes. There has been a bump to it at one point, and now it has corroded through.

I understand this is making the exhaust noisier.
How dangerous is this ?
I do plan of replacing it asap of course.
How much would the replacements be ?
Does the whole exhaust system underneath need fixing, or is it done in sections ?

Thanks so in advance,

JO xx

Hi

Not sure it is, but assuming it is virtually the same as my older FZR600.

The exhaust is a one piece unit from the cylinder head back to just behind the footrest hanger, with the remainder being the silencer. Held on at the head (8 bolts / studs) and another bolt under the back of the engine, then they attach to the silencer section with the silencer bolting to the footrest hanger.

Think D&K sell replacement exhausts but not sure they fit the FZR600R. They are around £200. Micron do a complete system but that would be around £400.

All the best

Keith

Thanks KS..
the silencer is new, so that is okay.
It's just all the pipes that are rusty.

My b.i.l is a whizz with bikes, I just hope he can find one that fits and fit it for me Wink
I will try and get hold of him.

A set of Micron Delta pipework will cost around £250 according to this website. Not a bad price for a stainless system made by Micron, but still not cheap.

Personally, I'd get them repaired. If its not a big hole and in a state beyond repair, it might be worth spending a few pound just taking them to a local workshop who can cut off some of the rust and patch it up. Thumbs Up

Then theres always phoning a few of the bigger breakers yards, try source a set of standard downpipes off a broken bike. Again, a little cheaper than buying a new set, but at least with a new set, you know you're getting something decent.

Shouldnt be too hard taking them off, just as long as you're careful not to snap a bolt in the cylinder. Doh!

Thank you Keith,
Very helpful Thumbs Up

Am starting with breakers, ..may think about a repair until a set comes along as there is only a small hole and some rust.

Hi

Looking at the pics I suspect the Micron pipes will not work with the stock silencer, so you might need to add £150 for the silencer to the £250 for the down pipes.

All the best

You'll get second hand good condition pipes for about £50 on ebay. I've been looking for a set for my FZR750 for months and they are RARE for the 750. I got some last week £90, yeay!!! I'd been plagued by 600cc ones going for pennies and seeing none to fit mine.

The 750 pipes are all in one piece, can and all Neutral

Don't know to be honest. The Micron pipework may work fine with the stock can, and I suspect your can is a copy (mounting point wise) of the original one. To be honest I would give them a ring or send them and email to check.

All the best
