i hope to pass my test soon
for me if i got a big bike, it wd be for comfy cruising rather than top speed.

I had thought sportsbikes as they are lighter, but maybe i jst need to find a smallish sports tourer

when i sat on an r1 it was a perfect fit and great riding postion, but an sl1000 falco had a long reach to the bars. This wd be great for tall people but I'm average or slightly short.

i hvnt sat on a vfr750 or vfr800 yet.

any ideas on a comfy sports cruiser for going about 80mph that wd suit the smaller person ?

i shd try sitting on a thundercat too as i think thats the touring side of sports bike

Have you considered something like the dragstar or eliminator, they have really comfy riding position, and nice big seat Smile

The ZZR is classed as a sports tourer. I'm 5' 4" and I can put both feet flat on the ground on my 600. It's comfy and has got some poke too (160mph top speed, apparently, although I haven't put it to the test Laughing ). It does 80-85 mph with no problem at all. The downside is that at 195kg it's a bit heavy.

If an R1 was a "perfect fit" you hardly need a small bike Confused

My dad is 5'4 and currently has a Honda Valkyrie Interstate, like this :-

Before that he had a ST1100 Pan European, and before that a 1200 Goldwing. I wouldnt worry about being too short, they seem to design the vast majority of motorbikes for diminutive japanese folk anyway.

FWIW if you want a sports tourer then you MUST take a test ride on the VFR. If it's an 800 model though I'd try for one without the variable valve stuff (as expensive to service).

As an all-rounder it's been king of the heap for so many people for so long it would be criminal not to give it a try.

yeah vfr750 is one of the first bikes i wanna test drive, its just my local dealers dont have any to sit on. A church stretton dealer has two, and has agreed to let me try one when if i pass my test.

im not quite sure how tall i am, but about 5ft6 to 5ft8. I guess im average or just slightly below average really but some bikes seem to be deisgned for 6ft ppl

I have been thinking about dragstars. I have sat on a 125 one and a 1100 one.

They felt ok, but the bars were too far forward for my taste. On a cruiser, I'd like to be able to lean back a bit.

Im amazed that a 5ft4 guy finds a pan, a valkyrie and gold wing comfy.

I shd try sitting on them as maybe its just the falco thats got too long a reach for me.

I'm 5'8" and dont find a vfr800 too big, I'd avoid the vtec version though.

Good choice Thumbs Up
I should imagine you will be ok with a 750VFR. The 800s always looked a little bigger, but I've never tried either bike.

I would second the ZZR idea, they have always felt narrower than other bikes I have tried and therefore feel lower.

Size wise I think the two are fairly similar. All Spares had a ZZR1100 in stock that I tried and was only a few inches from the floor (and you've got those few inches on me!).

I'd be interested to know what you think of the VFR when you try it Smile

Hehe, you should see him on them. He looks like he's sitting inside the valkyrie somehow! To be fair, he can only handle it through impeccable control and balance, if he lost control and it started to fall, he'd be buggered.

But as for comfort, the valkyrie and the goldwing are armchairs, and my dad has got a corbin saddle for the valkyrie too. Reckons he can ride literally all day without an ache.

You shouldn't have a problem with a VFR750. I'm 6'4, so i was more worried that it wouldn't be big enough for me (it is), rather than being too small.

But it certainly doesnt seem particularly tall, or particularly wide, the riding position is very comfy (neutral riding position, slightly canted forward).

If you want any more info about the VFR750 experience, just say and i'll write you snapshot review of the bike (brakes, handling, engine, living with it, etc.). Hopefully it'll help you decide if its the kind of bike you want.

Actually that reminds me... while Suzuki and I were in Clacton on Sea we saw a two Rocket IIIs parked up. After admiring them and commenting that you would need legs like tree trunks to ride the things we watched the owners return.

The first ike was ridden by a small chap, no more than 5' 4" riding it! He could barely reach the floor and his legs were sticking out almost sideways when he stopped! Laughing

The most ridiculous one I've seen was in Hein Gericke in Cardiff. There was a tiny little wizened old guy (70 if he was a day), buying gloves and dressed in skintight full race leathers. His knee sliders looked like fray bentos tins glued to a brush handle.

When we got out to the car park i couldnt resist having a look at his ride. VTR1000 firestorm. Shocked. He had to put one foot on the peg just to clamber on!

I watched him pull out of the car park, and then come to stop at the junction and put his foot down. The bike was at about 45 degrees...

I just hope i'm that cool when im old.
