Morning folks,

In a few weeks' time my girlfriend's taking part in the Great North Run. This is in Newcastle and we're based in Birmingham...

At the moment we are supposed to be staying with her friends in a cottage near Newcastle from Friday night until Monday morning. This prospect fills me with dread as I don't know any of her friends and get the feeling they don't want to meet me anyway!!!

My latest idea is to use the run as an excuse to get a last biking holiday in before Autumn sets in. A mate and I are considering taking a few days off either side, ambling up to Newcastle to see the run, then coming back early the following week.

We're thinking of taking two days off work either side. Will this be enough time to comfortably get there and back, taking a + b roads and avoiding motorways? Can anyone suggest good roads we could try?

I have no Idea on the roads from Birming to the toon, but once your here I can tell you some mint roads to ride.

Basiclly any road off the A69 after morpeth. Or head for Kielder good fast roads with not so many pollis.

Where abouts is your cottage, what area.

the runs on a Sunday? Have a run up to Heartside and then up to devils ridge, all day things 6 - 7 hours but loads of bike's at each place and absolutely great road from Heartside to D R.

Let me know the week before you get here nd I will give you some friendly advice.

Later matey.

If you go into Newcastle, make sure you stop off at westgate road.... a whole street of bike shops, a few cafe's and the odd guy wheeling up the hill. Not to be missed if you're in the area Thumbs Up

(go into newcastle from the west and you can't miss it)
