I might be making myself look really stupid here but how come nobody seems to be producing 400cc sports bikes anymore? It isn't like there isn't a market for them so why have they stopped?

True they are imported, but then there are no new designs being shipped over anymore either, surely if it was down to emmisions they would be able to find a way to get past it. They seem to with anything else. Confused

Because there isnt a market for them! Laughing

People want and buy second hand sports bikes that look good, can be insured and bought cheaply.

A modern day 400 would cost just as much as a 600 to buy (possibly more if it's somethinglike a VFR) In which case bikers would go for the 600.

What is probably a better idea is a modern 250 4 stroke sports bike whats 33bhp out of the box targetted at new bikers

They were originally built for the japanese market, licensing laws over there have since changed and killed off the market for them.

Only new ones I've heard of are a few examples of the SV400, Superfour Vtec and the Aprilia 450.

The other 400s available as grey imports can still cut it.

It's not really licencing laws, didn't someone post the Japanese top-selling bikes list for 2004 where the CB-1 400 was the best selling bike?

The Japs are a fickle bunch, and sports 400's are decidedly out of fashion at the moment.
