hiya all.

got back into biking about 12 months ago after a 10 year break after my rgv250 hit a bagger and my knee thought it didnt want to stay attached to me any more and would rather spread itself up the road.

i went out and got a jap import xlr250 as i didnt want nothing to pokey. every spare ive bought for the bike ive just ordered the part for the xr250 insted (as no one lists the xlr) and its fitted fine

a few questions

1) whats the difference between the xr and xlr
2) can i lift the ride height? (im 6ft 3 and find it a littleshort sometimes)
3) is the motor tweekable (could do with some more poke now) or shall i just shell out for a xr400

any help would be cool

cheers

Allan

I've got an XLR250 and Korn has an XR250. The obvious visable difference I noticed was that my XLR has a disk brake on the rear whereas the XR is a drum. Korn mentioned that they're also geared differently. Mine does 75-80mph whereas I think he said his does 60mph, but is probably more useable offroad I would guess.

shows how much i notice! never noticed the XR had drums on the back, i knew the old XR600 had drum brakes on the back.

mines on a J plate whatever year that is!

is the rear brake on your XLR as crap as mine?

also under heavy braking as im droping down a gear im getting the back wheel to 'skip' is this down to my damper setting, wasnt sure to set it hard or soft so put it in the middle?

mine does about 80 to, bit hairy, sounds like world is going to end!

cheers

I've tried not to use it in anger! Wink It locks the back wheel up, offroad, easily enough when trying to chuck it through bends.

The XLR is the road going version, i.e. key ignition, instruments, indicators, taller gearing all as standard. The XR is the enduro version, shorter gearing as standard and no provisions for brake lights, ignition or any other normal road-y bits. Engines, frames, wheels and suspension are pretty much the same as far as I know. Drum / disc rear brake depends on the year I think, older ones of both had drums but more modern ones have discs. Mine is pretty ancient, 1988 vintage Laughing

Playing with the preload on the rear shock made a big difference to mine, now a lot less 'saggy'. Try winding it on some more and see how it feels Thumbs Up
