my new shiney exhaust system arived today ,sounds and looks great but havent noticed the 2bhp gain .

Anyway when i purchased over the net ,it stated "performance" ,noticed after i fitted it,it was a racing exhaust .

My local bike shop told me 70% of bikes use these.

Well worry is you can't tell insurance company you have a racing exhaust for road use,so just wondering if anyone has been done for this or had there insurance voided after an accident !

The majority of people I regularly ride with have road-legal cans - I can only think of two or three out of about twelve who have race cans fitted.

Having a race can's not worth the risk of a fine everytime I go out and I also find them too noisy Thumbs Down

I've never seen anyone being or been fined myself.

However I prefer to stay with road legal cans for several reasons.

First, I'd prefer not to inform police that I'm coming from miles away.

Also I'd prefer not to get people's back's to up.

The tarty side of me does like the sound, but I'd have to be having some serious tuning work to justify spending the money if it wasn't on a bike when I got it.

Two words ... North Yorkshire ... Wink

Two of my mates have been fined outside Helmsley.

I've also been in a group pulled over for a "tax and exhaust" inspection in the same county and been sent on our way with a parting remark of "Cheers lads, first group we've not had to fine for race cans" ...

I have had race cans fitted to all my bikes (with the exception of the 400, which is my wife's officially) and have never had a problem.

This includes being stopped for speeding, and once cos I was 'riding dangerously' Rolling Eyes in trafffic (so where was my ticket then?!)

I have coppers living all round me, and live between the police training ground and HQ in Stafford, so you would think that if anybody is going to get hassle, it would be me.....

You won't get much of a Hp gain from just the can, you need to fit a full system and have the relevant work done to get a proper gain.

Along those lines - a while ago I was stopped for doing 119 while undertaking, they also got a car with a digital camera so they could take a picture of my slightly scrubed up track tyres and dodgy headlight - but ignored the race exhaust.

While I think on, also been out with yet another mate who was pulled over for a spot-check in a village near Whitby; he was asked about his can (legal), tax (valid) and visor (dark - but he was let off with that as he was carrying a clear one.)

Cleveland Police aren't keen on race cans either; I've personally witnessed them pulling bikes over on the A171 at the top of Birk Brow, where they can hear bikes coming up the bank and pull them over into a handy layby.

Get a full system like mine with spring mounts for the can, then pick one according to the conditions.

I have always had a race can on my bike. I have only been pulled once, just for a spot check, they just advised me to change it, but never fined me or anything! Thumbs Up

I've got two Twisted Evil very loud cans.
I think the engine type makes a big difference. On my 400-4 I had a race can and I got lots of nasty looks because it seemed like I was screaming everywhere.
On the 850-twin people smile when they hear it cos it's not a fast sound just very cool.

Well maybe Confused .

Imported exhaust system, custom made exhaust can. blatantly not for road use, but not obscene. Have passed multiple cops, haven't been stopped yet.

I Have an Art can on my Fireblade with a bsau rivet on band to replace the not for road use one, also a decibel killer wich is a slip in baffle that cuts the noise down and is really easy to fit,it only costs £14.95 see fuel exhausts on ebay

https://stores.ebay.co.uk/Fuel-Exhausts_Items-for-any-motorcycle_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQftidZ2QQtZkm

I think race cans are a safety feature because car are more aware of you.
just stay off the gas in towns and you are ok.

I'd be mindful of telling an insurance company you'd made a modification. I've heard of some of them asking for 90% percent price hikes for huggers, nevermind cans.

There is a grey area as to what is deemed to be of insurance impotance like huggers they dont improve performance and if its a aftermarket fit who is to know whats original or not...exhausts on the other hand aredeemd to be of impotance because they know you need to tinker with the feul system....loud cans dont do it for me, ever been on a long trip with one and they do nothing more than annoy people, there is no evidence to support the theory that loud cans gets car drivers to hear you, in my car I drive with loud music, think I can hear, can I F.... but I can hear a siren

I had an Akrapovic bolt-on on my ZX-6R J2 without any problems. Most of time it was on the bike it had the "Not for road use" etching near the exit pipe until I removed it. It sounded really nice.
