Rarely hear good stuff about the AA and RAC.

I use internation breakdown (google for it) - it's £68 for 'personal' cover, so that's whatever vehcile you're in, rider, driver or passenger, including 7 other passengers, recovery after accidents etc, etc.

Definitely been worth the money for me Thumbs Up.

Yup the AA cover bikes on a normal policy.

Other than having to wait an hour for them to arrive, I found the AA to be great when I had a burst rear tyre. It was lashing it down with rain but the guy was more than happy to take his time putting my bike onto the flat bed, he asked me if I was happy how he had fixed it, I said I'd prefer the straps to go around the main-frame rather than the pillion-peg brackets, so he spent another 5 mins adjusting them. We were soaked to the skin by the time we got into the cab. He never complained once. He wasn't a biker, but said he apreciated how unnerving it must be to have a bike strapped up on a wet flat bed truck.

I was very impressed.

I don't like the fact they won't rescue you if you crash and your vehicle isn't on the highway anymore. Then they charge you a small fortune Sad

I'm with them - not used them yet, but have heard good things from friends who have used them in the past.

I had AA cover previously, called them out once for a puncture (started carrying my own repair kit afterwards) - very good, but I was put off by their policies not covering recovery after a crash as Ducati750s has mentioned above.

(I believe that particular policy may have changed since, but I'm not sure)

With NCI Online here too, there excellent and very cheap.

I have vehicle based cover, so its cheaper than personal cover, its easy to move it to another bike too.

I've rang them out twice now, once they sent Midlands Recovery who arrived with in 15 minutes and got me back up and running, and on my way.
The other time they sent a company whom I don't remember the name of, but they recovered the bike carefully and with professionalism and even took me home after recovering the bike to a dealership.

NCI = Thumbs Up

Not sure it has, and the same policy is shared with loads of recovery companies.

All the best

I use internation breakdown:.

Sorry but bo**xs, I have had some atrocious experience of International Breakdown, or a company with a very simmilar name.
(Autonational rescue or somet like that).

Basicaly, 4 month old baby & a 2 year old plus me & the wife left stranded for 2 hours in -8c heat. They kept on saying people on the way.

In the end, the bloke who came (They sub out work to agents in the area), showed me his phone, ie he had only got the call about 20 mins earlier, so not his fault.

In the end of the day they are insurance companies, not specialist, all they ever do is recover you, not fix you.

When my throttle cable snapped on the ER5, the AA came out and fitted (yes fitted, a replacement cable). The AA bloke was a biker, top marks from me.

Well was it International Breakdown or not? You can't badmouth a company because they have a similar name to one that you've had shit service from. Rolling Eyes

I said 'rarely' in relation to the AA etc, I appreciate some have good experiences.

Recently had a slow arrival from IB, but then the motorway on the otherside was blocked up and he had to come down then back up to get to me, so not suprising.

Internation breakdown is not the same as the company you mentioned from what I can see.

Yes they do contract out, but then they always contract out to a flat bed at least - while I've seen the RAC send a small transit with no trailer when we've told them we need recovery.
You're less likely to get your bike repaired maybe, but also more likely to get it to your destination quickly.

I called the AA out to my bike when it refused to start....having told the phone operator the problem they turned up after about 40 minutes or so not equipped to move my bike when they couldn't fix it - so they had to call for another patrol to recover me - which was an hour later.

Good job I was sat in a pub and not out in the cold.

I wrote to the AA to complain but they fobbed me off. I am very unimpressed with their treatment of bikes from my experience. Personally I think they should send a patrol out capable of recovering two wheels if that is what the call out is for.

On the debate of the AA and RAC, I always found the AA to be good, when my CCT died one of previous casing the engine to rattle like a twat, I rang them out, and they arrived within an hour!
Which I thought was good considering that I was at Old Trafford football stadium on a matchday.

A van arrived the guy quickly assesed that It couldn't be ridden due to fear of mechanical failure, and I thought he was gonna have to ring a flatbed out, but no. He opened up the back of his van, and there was nothing in there, and he pulled out a little ramp from the floor and wheeled my bike in there!
Also found the AA to be good in accidents too, they recovered my bike to my home address without me there and quickly too so I am told.

My experiences with the RAC are much less good, on several occasions the GS500 died on me going to work, one was down to fuel starvation and they sent a patrol truck within about an hour. Considering it was the middle of december it was fecking freezing and it was about 6am in the morning too so they were hardly 'busy'.
The guy in the patrol truck then poked my bike and tried to get it running, and he then said to me that they weren't allowed to take bikes apart and rang for a flatbed!

Another hour and a half wait, and the flatbed arrives!
This happened a few times with them, till in the final few callouts I demanded they sent something that could recover me straight away, which most they did.
