why do people choose 50cc peds over 50cc sports bikes i really dont get it, the bikes look so much cooler and sound better and are much faster??

guys think back to your 16 year old days, what did you choose for your first bike??? was it a good choise???

Because 50cc bikes are more expencive for people to buy and cost allot more to repair crash damage, eg RS50 sliding down the road the fairings willl cost allot to repair compared to a peds plastics, also insurance seems to be cheaper.

Ride Safe (someone correct me if i wrong)

EDIT: The bikes arnt realy faster as they are only 50cc engine and they should be restricted if your 16 so if restricted there wont be no speed difference, its just 50cc engine generaly dont do much speed anyway.

Because to some people there is more than looks. Besides, looks are subjective. Some people probably think a scooter/moped looks better than a toy suberbike.

I never even entertained the thought of getting a 50, imo they are too slow to be on the road. I thought it best to wait untill i could at least get a 125.

I think it's because ost people don't/can't be bothered to learn gears & just settle for a twist & go. But i would expect most people who are 16 & do know gears have 50 geared bikes.

All the above are correct. I met in the middle with my Enduro and it wouldn't cost much, and saves me being seen on a ped.

Although the bikes have the same engine, the 50 cc sports bike will look like it's going much faster than it is. That was my excuse anyway..............

Moped's are quick off the line. When you've riden an 18bhp Piaggio Zip you'll understand the fun factor

I've just upgraded from a 50cc Auto moped (top speed 30mph) to a geared 125 bike 70-80mph i like the knowledge that i have the power to avoid dangers where as lower speed mopeds generally handle rubbish (my old moped couldnt lean far as exhaust pipe from manifold was 2 1/2 inches off the floor).

Now i have about 2ft clearance from the floor, more comfortable seating position, hiegher seating position.

I love my bike Rolling Eyes

Never rode a geared 50, however I have raced a 50 step through and I am again in two weeks at the BMF tail end show, and they are so much fun, dont need to think about gears etc just twist and go(slowish) but hey.

My first bike was an offroad DTr 125 when I was 14ish.

First road bike was an NSR125 which I still have.

I'd say at 16 wait a year and get a 125. Some might say don't even get a 125, just save up and jump straight in and get a 400/600, but I think that 125's are a great introduction to bikes, as they can be just fast enough to keep you interested for a while, while not so fast you end up dead.
