Back in Feb. someone pulled the old 'Slow down, then just roll out of a give way without looking...then stop dead in the middle of both lanes when they realise theres a bike coming'. You know the one. Having done my CBT the week before I was a little over eager with the brakes and the bike went one side of the car, I went the other.

Anyway, to cut a long (and potentially quite dull) story short, my free legal cover people are claiming on the drivers insurance for £800 bike damage and a new helmet. Since it was about 6 months ago and I'd not heard much I asked for an update. Apparently, they are waiting for the police accident report.

Just how long does it take to get an accident report from the police ?

They never attended the scene but I reported it after the other driver refused to give me her insurance details because she 'wasn't going too fast' (said in the same voice that you might tell off a child with). I'd have thought the police report wasn't much more than a couple of pages of paper, should it really take months and months to get it ?

I thought it was a legal obligation to give your insurance details to interested parties (as well as name & address) - perhaps this is the cause of the delay - they've nicked her Very Happy

Be prepared to wait!

My claim took nearly 18 months to be completed.
And if your injured always ring the police in an accident no matter how bad it is.

Also if she refused to give you her insurance details then she is/was breaking the law, if you are involved in an accident whether anyones fault you must supply the parties involved with your insurance details, or atleast your own details if not!

Sadly no witnesses to the actual incident. A couple of guys from the Honda dealership had a look out their door to see what the noise was. Was quite suprised that none of them came to help, I'd only just left the place after picking up a workshop manual.

I was in a bit of shock so never got her license plate (yeah, I know now that it's one of the first things you do) but I got her work contact number. When I called and tried to get her license plate that afternoon she told me that it wasn't her fault so she wasn't telling me a thing. I was very polite and told her that I'd have to tell the police. She wasn't happy about that, but thought I was bluffing and still didn't tell me.

I called the police next and they said to come by and fill out a report (having told me earlier that day that I didn't need to fill one out since nobody was hurt badly). When I arrived the guy on the desk told me that the driver had just called to report it.

If it was a lost cause because there weren't any witnesses, wouldn't my solicitor just tell me that ? They can't be making much money out of this.
