PostPosted: 19:28 - 01 Sep 2005    Post subject: Newb Question about Helmets! Reply with quote

Okay, i was given a helmet when i first got a bike a year ago, was about two years old when i was given it but not worn. Now, i know its had a few scratches, small drops and the like, but its still fairly well. however i realised it must be older then they said it was, which is worrying.

So its time to buy a new helmet. Does anyone know of any good helmets, reasonably cheap, that i should buy?

my bike is black...

So, any suggestions would be brilliant.

Thanks again Thumbs Up

Actually, it would depend on what fits your head.

Different manufacturers make them in different shapes, and different designs will fit differently also.

I started out with a HJC helmet - and all things considered its easily on par with my £350 AGV, and all for £80!

Suggest that you go find a helmet that fits first, and then worry about colour and costs...

Just make sure you try on whatever you are considering. My dad finds Arai helmets incredibly uncomfortable, and everyone has different shaped/sized heads!

I had a HJC helmet too, and they are excellent budget lids, i still have my old one for pillions.

If your on a budget nitro helmets i find to be very good, ive had 3 of them now. The £50 ones can feel a bit heavy, but my recent one cost me £150 and i find it to be brilliant, very light etc.

Best thing to do is visit a few bike shops and try them on to see which fits best.

I concur, you must try all kinds on and see what the best fit is Thumbs Up

Hopefully, if you have £100 you should find something.
My 1st was a Shark, (£99)..EXCELLENT fit and feel for me. I loved it. But then I crashed Confused
Next was a Nitro, (£80)..which I found okay, but slightly heavy.
I am currently with a Shoei, (I think it was £170).
Best yet. Light, good fit, reduces outside noise well, ..

They are a good range out there. Have a big look around and go from there. At least if you find one you like you will know how much you have to save.

Caberg have a newish one out with internal sun visor, its the V2. Come in loads of colours and cost about £100 i believe. Like the idea of flipping down the visor when is sunny, but i am back to my AVG and use sunglasses. Like the shoei's but yes as everybody said - go and try some one and different sizes is well and than choose.

Bell do nice helmets, very very snug for my head and VERY quiet... But they're hard to get hold of...

I have an AGV Airtech at the moment which is quite comfy but the padding inbetween chin and chin strap makes my ears each after about 30 minutes... Ventilation is next to none though and I have never had a problem with fogging thanks to AGV's antifog visor treatment! Smile

I have the caberg with the flip down sun thing. I really like it as a feature but you do have to be super careful with it, the colouring layer is super thin and leaves nice white scratches if you so much as breath on it, other wise its a nice helmet. Smile
