Ok, which foot do i put down? i had thaught that it was my right foot, as i can then put the bike in neutrol and then into 1st as i move off. But then i heard that when stopped, you have to cover the rear brake, so that means your left foot goes down, but then i hear people saying, "put whichever foot down" and now im well confused lol Laughing

You put whichever foot you feel most comfortable with Confused ,
apart from on a hill, where you obviously need to have your right foot on the rear brake.

They say to put your left foot down as if you're going to lean on that foot, it's better if you fall off, as you will fall onto the pavement.

I don't actually know if there is a correct foot to put down...anyways...

Personally always put my left foot down. Just slap it into 1st and hold the clutch in, nothing wrong in doing that. Put your left foot down and cover that rear brake with your right foot. With that rear light lit up people have more chance of seeing you, and you want to been seen on a motorcycle. You don't wanna hear the comment 'i didnt see you' just make you fuse Razz Evil or Very Mad

Take it easy

I got told for my test to always put the left down and keep the right on the brake. Putting the left down feels more natural anyway.

I was always told you should be using your right foot on the brake.

This way if someone rear-ends you, you don't go flying out into the junction infront.

I put my left foot down so i can cover the break, although if i need to change down to first or something, then whilst still holding the front break, i simply swap feet, change gear, then swap again to cover the rear break again.

I'm right footed and after years of cycling used that to balance on. However when I did my CBT I was told to always cover the rear brake so have made myself do it until it's now 2nd nature. It would feel weird to do it any other way now. Infact I think I'd fall off! Shocked
I thought it was a fail if you did it any other way Question

When I went on my DAS they taught left foot down so you can cover the rear brake and you can keep it in first with the cluth in ready to pull away.

I was always taught left foot, and the Hendon shuffle is where you change feet to slip into first, and then change back to the rear brake again.

You must always put your left foot down, as it is the same as having the handbrake on in a car. (using the rear brake)

Left foot down, unless you have the front brake on then it's right Smile . You need to have 1 brake on at all times when you are stationary (especially if going for your test). I change down when coming to a stop so I'm in the right gear to pull away. Left foot goes down as I don't need to touch the gears...

Spot the old-style rider Wink

I noticed that people who have been riding bikes over 10 years put their right foot down (so as to be in gear ready) and those less than 10 years put their left foot down to cover the back brake.

Could be to do with old British bikes being the other way round, for example my neighbour learnt to put his right foot down and cover the back brake with his left foot, and has been unable to get out of the habit even riding modern "Jap crap" Wink
