Why did i buy a bike? Now i've been affected for life...
I Seem to have fallen in love with biking

I bought a Honda NSR a while ago and was planning to have it for a year and then get a car, but now the bike has brainwashed me. I'm having driving lessons and plan to get a car, but the more i think about giving my bike away the more it hurts. I'm not rich enough to get both.

But a car has it upsides - being able to drive people around, comftable, not a bitch in rain, no shitty ugly helmet hair.

But then a bike is soo much more fun to ride and so much quicker and no traffic jams.

Now i'm thinking about scapping my car test and taking an A2 and getting a restricted R6 of something, the thought of it just gets me excited.

But i also want a car... Damn decisions, decisions, decisions..!!

Any Suggestions . ?!?

Im in a similar boat. Once i pass my car test on september 20th, i will buy a shitty car and insure it...

Then when i get some money i will buy a geared bike to ride on my CBT to get some practise on gears, then i will do my A2 Twisted Evil

But i dont want to sell my scooter, as i do actually really like it Embarassed Cool Maybe i might sell it, once i ride a big bigger bike.

You don't have to be rich to have both Thumbs Up

I'm only a poor Old Geeza (aah, shame - not that anyone cares on this forum Wink !), but I just manage to keep my car and bike on the road at the same time. However, once I passed my bike test a few months ago, I've never driven my car since that day. And it's sitting outside my house rusting away Shocked

Get a grip man. The choice is yours. Wink

You gotta be so careful with bikes. Once they bite they never let go no matter how hard you try. When you think the habit has been kicked you suddenly find yourself drooling outside a dealer or slobbering in a car park.

I had some decent bikes many, many moons ago. Then the wife and kids came along and it got scaled down drastically but the bite never went away.

Now the kids are flying solo I’ve got back into biking and happy as a sandboy. The WIFE is now giving me crap for making wait so long.

It might be an antique, but it's still my pride and joy. If push came to shove, then the car gets the short end of the stick Twisted Evil

Long live my bike Wink

Get 2 jobs and stay at school. Evil or Very Mad

It's hard, but I have enough to keep my car on the road, enough to feed my disgusting addictive habit Razz and enough left over to save for the new bike.

With the current situation regarding petrol prices and all, you'd be mad to sell a perfectly good bike and drive around in an inefficient tin box.

Biking doesn't cost all that much. You could easily keep a bike on the road for under £500 a year (which includes buying it). You just need to ignore the fashion victims.

For example:

Honda H100: £300
TPO insurance for above: £70
Tax: £15
MOT: £30
TOTAL: £415

I passed my car test last week and normally this wd have meant i wd have got a car, but Ive had an rs125 on a CBT for 9 months so obviously I dont want to get a car.

My bike test is next week and so I'm thinking not about what car I might get but what bike. I still love my rs125 especially as its now working better than ever after having the clutch fixed (properly this time).

I was riding in the bad weather between december and march, and i might get a car for those times, but otherwise i see no benfit in getting a car.

insurance for me on a small car wd be £800, for my rs125 its been £120 and once i get my 1yr ncb, i could insure an r1 for £400

becoming a car salesman isnt a bad idea

I don't know what your employment situation is but getting a car license is an extremely useful career move. In many ways it is more useful than a degree. But if you are toying with the idea of buying a car and don't know if you are going to be able to afford it you probably are not.
Just an example from my own recent experience :-

When I drive my car about all month, commuting to work ( 2miles ) and small amount of other stuff, It costs me £90 in petrol per month. Every six months it costs me £93.50 for the tax disk. On top of that you have insurance!!!

Until I got my last car, I bought a £100 heap for the winter and scraped it in summer. Get a low powered one and the tax is cheap and so is the petrol.

In the long run I think it's worth having both licenses.

They'll be plenty of time to own each/both. You just have to be patient and determined.

I agree with this apart from I'd say that in this modern world it is essential to have a car license, and very nice to have a full bike license, but a car license is more important.

People who haven't passed their car test by the time they are 30, I wonder if there is something a bit bizzarre about them unfortunately, it's a rite of passage, a stage of adulthood.

Although Motorcycle license, I got mine [ via part 2 ] 17 years ago when it was simple and cheap, and my mate is just taking his DAS and it's cost him around £800 so far [ shudder ] you are seen as a member of the chosen few. I constantly talk to people who wish they could have a motorbike, and others who failed some part of their test and gave it up, or harbour the ambition to pass their motorcycle test "one day"
