Problems with bikers getting bike entitlement on their license.

Anyone else seen/watching it?

Finished now, the dvla have removed people's bike entitlement when they've moved or sent their license back.

I was there when they were filming - wondered what all that was about. Couldn't see me on the tele though, dang! Thought that could be a first

Was just watching it in zoo bar, i've read stories on it before, but the DVLA just told the unfortunate people to go and do their test again, down't even know if the DVLA offered to pay for it, but at least one person has had the motorcycle entitlement reinstated at no personal expense after the mess-up.

I remember checking my old paper licence when I changed address in 1991 because of this. It has been going on for years.

The only solution is to always check your licence when it comes back from the DVLA to make sure all you entitlement is still on it.

Which obviously, they use as 'get-out' clause. The onus is on you to check.

Photo copy your licence before you send it away so you have proof of your entitlements just incase DVLA try anything naughty.

A few years ago theyt actually sent me two licences, one with six points, the other with none . Never got any more points to see what would happen if I sent the empty one in.

I've still not sent my pass certificate and licence off to be updated. After reading this i think i'll photocopy them both before sending.


Surely someone shouldn't have to do their test again? Couldn't they just go to the test centre and get another copy like you can with mot's, or at least something from an examiner to confirm you have passed?

I watched this too, with some interest, as my photocard license has just been returned to me after passing my restricted test.

It all seems ok, Catagory A =<25kw (I assume means under 25kw) but then its also got the code 01...I've looed this up and apparently it means 'eyesight correction' ?

Does this mean they think I wear glasses?

When I passed my bike test last month the examiner told me to scan my driving license before sending it off. He also mentioned that there's a checking service at the post office that I could use if I didn't want to send off important documents such as birth certificate or passport. Still haven't got around to doing it, must get my arse in gear.

There was a news article about the DVLA removing entitlement for Cat A in the MCN weekly newspaper couple of weeks ago, it happened to a traffic bike cop too, when the copper contacted DVLA they said they couldn't do anything and that he would have to re-sit his test.

So he did, before the test though the examiner asked the traffic cop ''is this a joke''

Definitely photocopy anything you send back to the DVLA!!

Oh great , I'm due to move away very soon and I seriously don't want this to happen , does anybody else know about the post office checking service? ,

Or should I do the not very legal keep my license+bike registered at my Dad's place type thing ?

urk just checked the post office checking service , its worthless for all intents and purposes in that all they do is check the documents in support of application for a driving license say your passport.

It just means that you don't need to send your important documents off. It's bad enough sending them to the useless DVLA in the first place without the added worry of them going though the uk postal service.

If you pass and have a photocard driving licence issued after 1 March, 2004 the examiner will ask you if you want your full driving licence issued to you automatically. If you want to use this service, the examiner will take your old licence off you, scan the details and send them electronically to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). You will then be given a pass certificate to prove you passed your test. DVLA will then send you your new full licence by post within three weeks of you passing your practical test.


Seems to me that this would prevent the DVLA cock-ups, though why it only applies to licenses after that date is a mistery to me.
