Just asking this for some one i know

she says...

want to park my trike in Sheffield centre (cultural industry quarter area).

A trike is a modified motorbike so it has three wheels. It is taxed as a motorbike but in the eyes of parking services it cannot be parked in a motorcycle bay. In their eyes it has to be parked in a parking bay or a pay and display car park.

It's the same size as a motorbike (only slightly wider due to the rear wheels), it has the economy of a motorbike and is more environmentally friendly than a car so should be encouraged in the city.

If I pay and display then where the hell do I put the ticket? It'll blow off, get rained on or be nicked by someone!

Before you reply to this with the 'leave it at home and catch the bus' response, give me a break, I want the freedom to bring my vehicle into the city.

Can you think of a way around it or where I can park up?

there was something about it in TWO a couple months back about trikes,

in that it depends on the weight anything above 410kilos = car ,

thing is its kind of confusing since motorcycles aren't properly other than not being a moped (more detailed but I can't recall it) .

Maybe you should just park in the motorcycle bay and remove the front wheel , hence its got two wheels , it weighs less than 410kilos and the forks sticking out of the front are a huge side stand

in fact that makes me wonder is a BOSS HOSS V8 a car or a motorcycle since thats one helluva heavy beastie and looks way over 410kilos.

Park in a ncp carpark. I cant think where your trying to go but there is one near campo lane or one behind the bankers draft. That way you dont need to display anything, or you could hire a parking space somewhere. I dont think there is anyway round not being able to display your ticket.

unless you get a seperate tax holder for tickets, but i think she would prefer to park for free.

I know , get a bit of rubber sheeting right? , and when parking up wrap the rubber over the back tyres both of them , then stick a sheet over it say a tarp , for all intents and purposes a parking attendant can't remove the tarp , and it looks like its got a MONSTER rear tyre and a normal front tyre ,

you could just get a car tyre and cut the sides so it fits flush.

On the odd occasion when I park the bike in a pay and display space, I leave the ticket stuck on the bike and take a photo of it with my camera phone.

That way if you do get it nicked and they try to do you for it, you can (a) prove you bought a ticket and (b) you displayed it.

Slightly off-topic I know but FWIW when they introduced paying for motorcycles in York they changed the machines so you press a button and it prints 2 tickets. One you keep and the other for the bike.

Which car park is this in? I rarely ride into York, but if I do I usually park in the bays near the dungeon which I think are free. I've never really worked out where else you can park.

Errr, right, this is where I have to remember road names and directions without waving my arms around or giving out the names of the pubs. Also bear in mind I haven't riden into York on the bike to park up all summer so they may have changed the rules again (they always seem to for the tourist season).

I know it's not at St. George's Field (the one where the fairground is put and always gets flooded). I did see it at Nunnery Lane (Micklegate bar) as Hein Gericke is just round the corner on Blossom Street. It was also in place on the one at the end of Gillygate, near Lord Mayor's Walk (also coach park for the tourists).

If I'm going into York for a wander I have left the bike chained to one of the big lamps on their islands in St. George's Field. Means bumping the bike up the curb but that's no hassle. I don't bother with a ticket, the bike's not taking up a car place and I haven't had any notices stuck to the bike yet. However, now I know about free bays I'll try putting the bike there, thanks Thumbs Up

Best city for bike parking I've come across so far is Hull. Lots of free marked off bays (for say 3 to 5 bikes) in the centre with rails to chain the bike to. Does anyone know anywhere else that's bike parking friendly like this?
