I was coming home from the pub last Sunday night (not been drinking) at about 10pm when I hit a badger at 70-80 mph. Went straight over it with both wheels and stayed on. Even found badger hair in the side-stand spring the next day so obviously hit the bottom of the bike too. Felt like a bloody big bump and left me with my heart in my mouth.

Glad I was travelling in a straight line, and also wonder if the speed actually made it easier to stay on because of the extra momentum(?) I went back and it was (surprisingly) dead and a good 2 ft long. Anyway, I was just curious to know what animals / objects people have hit and still (a) stayed on the bike (b) survived? (May be morbid fasination I have...) Anything that came up higher than the axel would almost certainly have you off, right?

Oh. Someone told me today badgers are a protected species so you're meant to report any such incidents. Same as dogs I believe. Anyone know?

glad that you kept it rubber side down, yeah think that your momentum and the fact you where going in a straight line helped you out a lot.
just don't hit anything bigger like a deer!

the biggest thing i have been hit by was a large fly with my visor up! nice yellow splat on my face! Rolling Eyes Sick

Missed a hare by about an inch one dark night. Going about 45, and it popped out of the hedge and I swear it grazed my front wheel as it went past. Of course I had jammed on the brakes at this point, so it was lucky I did or I would have nailed it. But this was on a scoot, so if I had hit it, I reckon I would be in a world of pain as well. Shocked

yeah i think that you are right as the scoot wheel is tiny so would be effected a lot by a relitively large object hitting it

Worst thing was some train tracks the ones sunk in the ground and surounded by metal in the wet on my 750 while taking a corner quiet fast nearly lost it but those things are leathel you ever come to the usa fora bike ride tour watch out for 'em. Also hit the odd plastic bottles. Hit a already dead bird in the road with both wheels that wasnt nice on my gixxer.

That sort of track:

A pidgeon, where did it hit you? Could leave a nice big dent in either you or the bike!

Flames? Do they spontaneously combust on impact?

The feather explosions are wicked, in a twisted sort of way. Anyone seen that vid of a bird getting hit by a baseball during a game? Just went *poof!*

Unlucky rider, and an unlicky bird...also the deer shud have looked both ways before corssing...ive not hit anything bigger then a bumble bee on the bike, in the car ive had a grey pidgen...i flew from the gutter up into the wheel arch bounced back out and nerly came in my open window..lucky it hit the wing mirror 1st and all i saw was a clud of feathers in the rear view...wich the car behind me must havebeen impressed with...

we once had one fly into work at about 16:45 we close at 5 and it would have been setting the alarm of all weekend, so we tried to catch it...one guy grabbed it and it just spat all its feathers out as it flew off...guy had a hand full of fluff...the thing was a funny thing to wach trying to fly with a few wing and ALL its tail feathers missing...

Had a crow fall down the chimney once, starting flying around the living room and perched on top of the curtain rail. Thing it was in shock, as it was fairly happy to let me take it outside in both hands and set it free! Veery Michael Jackson trial, in black!

Oo! Oo! Pun! Jackson! Black! Laughing

I used to have a Yamaha DT100 nearly 20 years ago, and the exhaust had more holes in it than a saxaphone, and it ( the exhaust pipe ) was about the same shape, and noisy.
The bike wasn't all that fast but I used it to get to work ok. One day I was coming home into my road when a cat ran under my back wheel. The cat was going quite fast, and the wheel went over some part of it, and I looked around to see it scurrying around a garden wall, I had not stopped the progress or changed the direction of the cat one bit!
