how does mpg on old 400's compare with on old 600's

I had dismissed sports 400's as overpriced and only good for people who wanna keep 33 restrictors in. I now realise that scruffy 400's are a lot cheaper than mint ones.

I had thought for nippyness, a rs250 wd be better, and a sports 600 wd be faster.

I know rs250's are atrocious on 2 stroke oil and petrol and i guess 600's drink more than a 400, but how much more ?

The thing that has made me reconsider, is seeing an E reg '88 vfr400 with 27000 miles for £530. Im not gonna buy anything till i pass my test, but Im sure there are similar bargains around.

Spend a couple of hundred more and get an '89 NC30.

I used to get around 50/52mpg out of a standard one, my lightly modified RVF still returns about 45mpg.

thnx, its good to know the difference between standard and modded too

google tells me an unmodified r6 gets about 30mpg.

and an old fz600 apparently gets 50mpg, so there is quite a range for 600's

ive just found someone else who claims 46 mpg on commuting their r6

It's about how you ride them as well - my RVF's drinking more because I'm using a lot more of what it has to offer than a couple of years ago riding a similar-engined NC30.

Bike Magazine did a fuel test challenge a while back, after some really fuel efficent riding, they were getting 90+mpg out of sports 600s.
