On cars and big bikes, when we turn the key we get a little dance of the warning lights and maybe some speedo action. maybe some whirrs and clicks.

Do you wait until this finishes before hitting the starter?

What's happening is the on-board computer is 'tasting' the air, temperature, humidy, on some - air pressure (for altitude), and then setting the ignition profile accordingly. Your basic calibration procedure.

A mate of mine never waits, and calls me fussy because I do. Can't say I'd ever really noticed any difference when I didn't - except on my last two bikes. The Buell would idle very roughly and the MT won't start first time.

Maybe the ECU's are getting smarter?

Personally l think priming the fuel pump and EXUP valve servo check is important, which only takes 5 secs.

The 350 powervalve was the best. Used to make a "Bzzt, whrrr. Bzzt, bzzzt" noise as the powervalve went through a cleaning cycle Cool

On the Bandit I turn the key and the clocks both go the the max and then back to 0.

It does it so quickly I don't usually have a chance to start it before it has finished.

The TZR does a cool powervalve cycle thing. Brrrt eeeek brrrt.

I like the way the rev meter on the newer gixxer's go all the way to max and back again, that just looks cool as hell.

personally I'd wait.

Stinkwheel, that noise was part of why i took up biking!(The Micron pipes fitted to the same bike were another)
My gixer has a nice whir on startup as it primes the fuel pump, nothing on the LC though.

I turn the key, the bike turns on. No whirrs, clicks, nothing. Maybe because it hasn't got a fuel pump, digital clocks or what not. It's just ready for me to thumb the starter.

I remember that!

I also had a ZX750 turbo which used to do a sequence through the boost leds, up then down again. Dead cool for an 80's bike. Smile

The ped has got a wierd speedo, theres a wire from the axle to a motor under the needle, which makes it move. When I turn it on, the needle jumps to about 5mph twice.

All the warning lights come on, too, and the trip/fuel/clock/mileage display sets itself up.

I wait for all this to finish, because I like watching the little show Laughing

In the Punto a little yellow key symbol comes on, with the 2 second long wirrring. Im guessed it had something to do with injection, or the immobiliser. - I wait for it to go out before turning it futher. If I turn the key all the way at once nothing happens.

The ZXR does nought, until I hit the starter button then things get louder Razz

My busa used to do that dial spinning thing, usually just waited until I heard the fuel pump stop whirring before I started it.

The R6, just turn on the key and choke if needed, and start it.

On my car, first thing I usually have to wait for the glow plug light to go out before it'll start, but that's because I'm driving a knackered diesel.

On some cars this is the key and alarm being recoded and synchronised.

Quiet a few cars now have perimeter keys, where you don't need to put your key in the ignition, wonder how long before this happens on a bike?

Imagine the speedy getta aways sprinting to your bike it fires up. Hop on and go for it.

They would need a sensor for the gear you in though dont want it starting its self automaticly. A car done it once round us (some bad boi escort modded) and it took off in first lol.
