and I always wanted an sv....

£1200 gets you reasonably far these days:

1999 Suzuki sv650s
Category C write off
9500 Miles
T & T
4 previous owners
FSH

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/greggreggreg/someotherfrenchnumbers.jpg

On the Machine
Steering Damper
JHL(S) Stage 2 Upgraded polished forks with adjustable...erm...bits at the top.
Hugger
Braided Brake Lines
Full Stainless steel screws/bolts (thank gawd)
Remus Revolution Exhaust (with removeable baffle)
JHS Rearsets (Give me a clue as to the benefits rearsets give Confused)
R&G 'wuss' bungs
Powerbronze Undertray

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/greggreggreg/unedeuxtresquatre.jpg

Off the Machine:
Fairing Lowers
Replacement Front Cowl
Replacement Front Lights
New GSXR shock & Linkages (a common sv upgrade??)
Solo seat cover
Iridium DB Screen & original
Replacement carbon Fibre Mudguard
Replacement Oil Filter
Original Exhaust
Repalcement new Mirrors
Original Footpegs
Original Undertray (oh boy, I'm glad to have that Confused)

Rides very smoothly, brakes and suspension are incredibly good, the front end is very responsive and brakes are 10x better than the hornets. Power is noticeably down on the hornet, but that was always expected. Handles, stops and sounds better so thats got to be worth something.

Rode it over to Dartmoor on thursday and played about there for the weekend - attended a wedding, scared some sheep, have a stand off with a rather 'pissed off' cow, stroke some 'wild' ponies, get bitten by wild ponies (Guess that'll teach me eh Wink). Generally a good weekend. Very jealous of the folk that live close to dartmoor, such a lovely place. It's good that there is a 40 limit there, far too many wildlife kicking about to get knocked off by. But you can get away with the usual blast, as many bikes and cars did. (seen a 'GTR', looked rather exotic, ferrari-like, who makes them?)

I want to go back. Have to try wales sometime soon, I was tempted when I saw the signs on the M5. Thinking

Ah, you finally gave in then? Laughing Looks a bloody good deal that, so much so I think I need to persuade myself of some reasons why mine was worth £600 more despite having half the mileage. Neutral Brick Wall

Remus can must sound good too...

*daydreams about micron can actually being delivered*

What's happened with the hornet?

Had a shot of somone on this forums sv and it got me hooked. Embarassed Wink The Remus can does sound good, I gather it is completely necessary to blip the throttle at the lights to keep the engine in good shape? (well, thats my excuse as I always do it Wink)

Wanted a older Quill race can though. Have heard what they sound like and.... Drooling Would go for twin cans but I don't think it would suit the bike to be honest (bit too thin)

Hornet is sitting in the garage, currently SORN'ed. (Can't have two bikes on one policy until November, it has no MOT and the tax is up) I've got a reasonably big drive though so can still keep it running. Just need to see the finances to see if I can keep both.

Oh and it is all being resprayed black this weekend (that IS the plan) as the hugger and lower fairing panels are a lighter blue. And I've already got the paint lying about. Thumbs Up

Laughing Hell yeah, any excuse to head back down that part of the UK.

Mpg is much better than the hornet's surprisingly. I'd do about 90 miles before I filled her up today, just out of habit. 90 miles on the hornet would cost £9.40 odd. On the sv, it was £7.80. And that was playing about in dartmoor too, so not constant throttle on the motorway.

Yeah, mine's good for 120-130 miles before the light starts flashing and even then I think there's probably 20 miles left in it (don't fancy pushing my luck too much Razz).

Maybe we should sort something Walesish out.. I've been meaning to have a play on those roads for ages. Anybody else fancy it?

Congrats, I saw that on sv650.org. Mine can start flashing at anythign from 90-140 miles, when it flashes you have about 35-40 miles left, as it has 3.5 litres Smile When the light stays on, you should think about nothing but getting some fuel!

EDIT: My SV cost £200 mroe, was mint but had a seized back brake, i reckon its worth about 1700. Just goes to show bargains can be found!

Laughing - Well, I want to get to dartmoor again, that's for sure. There's one little bridge between Two bridges (where I was staying) and MortenHampstead (where I stayed the night before). It's a 40 limit and it's I think where there is some sort of tourist centre, but you only have to crawl along at 25mph then just blip the throttle as you're going over it. Great fun.

Both wheels off the ground. Need to find a similar one in my area!

Glad you like it.

While I don't like twins much, nor was I great fan of the hornet power delivery.

Hopefully picking up a track one Wednesday - hopefully I can find as good a deal on a road one when I can afford it (or have the TRX in a swappable condition).

nice bike Thumbs Up

I was torn between the hornet and the sv but in the end I went for a hornet.... the extra power and the convenience of higher/wider bars (I want to do some distance touring and I ride in town alot) swung it.

out of interest what was it you didn't like about yours?

The fact that the hornet sits at high revs on the motorway, the fact it does less than a hundred miles to a tank (not very convenient at all) insurance is more and just I always wanted an sv in the first place.

I like the seating position of the sv more to be honest. Feels more in control. Just seem to prefer engines that don't sound like they're going to explode. The top end power of the hornet is great though. Very addictive. Just didn't like how you have to ride in the right gear all the time, the sv is much nicer to ride on twisty sections.

Plus the sound....phwoar...Wink

fair enough Smile

The hornet is a revy bike..... but I'm kind of used to it, all of my past bikes have been worse so the hornet seems refined by comparison Smile

I haven't ridden an sv (would really like to) but yeah I imagine the handling is more sporty..... I like the hornet's handling though, the big bars make throwing it around easy and I love the way the fat rear tyre feels. Its also a fairly good bike for pillions which is an important factor for me. I love the basic styling as well, it looks purposeful.

I can see why you changed to the sv though. Each to his own Thumbs Up
