A couple of weeks ago, I was on my way home with my gf on the back and I went down a stretch of road that I've been going down since I began riding... (about 2 years, I go on the same road almost every day as its the road I use to get to work) I pulled off of the round about and as you join the road its two lanes, the other side is a single lane with a double white line separating them.
As I pulled behind a car doing 30mph (on national speed limit, probably still accelerating :-p), a checked behind, did a shoulder check and looked ahead - all clear, lets go!
I observe as I pull out and as I get into lane I look down at my clocks to see what speed I was doing - 60mph - great! Upon lifting my head up, I notice theres a car - in my lane! - coming towards me, its flashing its lights, and blue.... oh wait!, its a police car! no sirens though... probably why I didn't hear him...
He doesn't move, and by this point im almost on top of him, shoulder check over my left shoulder as I was conscious of the car I was still overtaking, and slipped between them both... My gf looked behind and flagged him off (lol :-p) - you'll see why in a mo..
A good 10 seconds passes and then the sirens come on, I was shocked... totally shocked. Anyways, I gets back and my gf starts talking about this police car and explains to me how something hit her leg as it went past! At this point i was furious! She didn't have any marks and said it didn't hurt but said something definitely hit her.
She told me what she saw while she was on the back, and that the police car has just pulled out (not even looked ahead) as he was behind a series of cars, with no sirens or no lights at all. She'd watched him and realised the situation we were in.
Luckily we ended up both being fine, and with my "good" swerving we both ended up alive.
Yesterday, I was on my way home and a big white van driver did exactly the same to me... (obviously, every time i've been down that road since I've been waiting for the same to happen and managed to quickly get back into the other lane).
I'm curious to 1) how many police do this, and has anybody ever been in a similar situation - i.e. surely no overtaking means no overtaking under any circumstances! 2) does anybody ever do this themselves and why??
Cheers,
Chris |

Was in my car going onto a mini roundabout, a police car on the left junction pulled out on me. We both slammed on the brakes and missed by inches.
Felt good in the car knowing I was in the right, and didnt have a race can or small plate
He looked at me as if to say "WTF you doing" then realised you ment to give way to the right.
I let him off |
