Out of curiosity, I did a search on the web to see if there are any changes for the new 2006 R1.
Unfortunately, according to Yamaha UK and US websites, there aren't any cosmetic changes but they're gonna tweak the motor a bit.
BUT... I found this article and picture on a German bike mag's website, Motorrad. Although the image is computer retouched, I would not mind having one of these should they make it into production...
What are your comments on this...?

I did a online German to English translation of this article:
"The answer came promptly. "Performance increase will never end", said a high-ranking Yamaha engineer on the question, where the achievement will still rise with the supersportsmen. As long as there would be motorcycles like the R1, they would add from entwicklungsstufe to entwicklungsstufe. The controllableness of many horse power will move stronger at the same time into the foreground.
In other words: An electronic anti-slip regulation, where they today are already found in MotoGP motorcycles, is quite possible for that for the next evolution stage R1. Also further transfers of MotoGP technology are conceivable for the 2006 R1, for example an electronic delimitation of the butterfly valve opening in the lower courses, in order to prevent all too rabiate wheelies. A genuine M1-Replika for the road, mentioned by Yamaha, is already in dealer circles, it however won't be in the year 2006.
Higher achievement causes larger air volume, therefore there should be larger sucking scoops in the front of the fairing, at the same time the front fenders will also deflect the wind at these openings. New integrated turn signals below the intake ducts will modernize and ad detail to the future model. The same applies to the new colour coded mirrors. Altogether the vision of the future R1 will be more sharp-edged than the current R1, where the lines become more defined. At the chassis it is noticeable that nearly everything remains alike, and that is not bad. However, new forged wheels will reduce the unsprung and rotary masses." |

That picture is old news and is a mock up.
There is already a thread all about the 2006 R1:

I think they are happy with the bike so have looked to improve on an already good all rounder. |

Well, its the 1st time I 've seen this picture and the article was dated 12.08.05... not so old news then
Even if it is a mock up, I still think it looks great and still want one.
IMO, for the 2006 model, Yamaha could have done a small cosmetic change by going for integrated indicaters like the new Gixer
... and still no slipper clutch? |
