Hi, i've been offered a Yamaha Jog 2001 plate for £350ish and i was considering getting it just to commute about on until i'm 17 this december. Reason is my rs just keeps on getting small niggles with it, and it's starting to piss me off and have to throw money at it to get it sorted.
Also, i may already have a bike lined up for december and i can see the rs being a bit of a nightmare to sell because of the big-bore etc... It would be much easier to sell the rs now and get it out the way, then when the time comes i can chuck the ped in the paper and get it sold quite quikly (hopefully.)

So, is the Jog worth the money, what sort of top speed am i looking at de-restricted and are they hard to de-restrict?

Thanks, Dom.

I had one, bought it for £800 53 plate a year ago. It had 2 years warranty. Then it turned out it didn't have the warranty, took them to court, won £330, so paid £470. I then sold it 2 weeks ago for £550. Cool

Problems I had -

Arrow Blocked air filter
Arrow Front brake pads
Arrow Electrical problems, wouldn't start for a week or so??
Arrow Dodgy headlight, switched itself off every now and then
Arrow Power cutting out when under load
Arrow Blocked air filter, again
Arrow Broken speedo cable
Arrow Drank oil

They are bog-standard, cheap mopeds. That said, they do the job.

I never derestricted mine, but I hear they hit about 42MPH when done.

£350 for an 01 is a reasonable price, but don't expect a lot from it.

Any qs PM me.

The jog is the fastest of the yamaha peds, and you can expect an indicated 60mph out of it. £350 is good value, i paid that of a w-reg speedfight in tatty condition with a big bore, modded tranny, and leo vince exhaust. Needless to say, it went bang. have a look and check its history. Sounds like a good deal to me Thumbs Up

depends what the guy who has it now has done to it, if nothing, ther'll be restrictors in the exhaust system, and possibly in the V belt. If it's just the v-belt restrictor it's ludacrisly simple, just remove a thick washer that's sandwiched against the side of the clutch. tools needed, allen key to remove engine casing, and spanner, easy. Exhaust could prove a more tricky, best get someone with experience to take a look. But jog's are pretty nippy, i know the new ones have aerox engines in, not sure about 2001 versions though. Should do 45+

Bull shit! The speedo only goes up to 50, and without modification it won't hit 45. The Aerox is more powerful and is faster and has better build quality, and the Jog RR is pretty much the same as the Jog R but has liquid cooling.

In a nutshell, it's a ped. That's it. Modding it is useless, and derestrciting it will coax an extra 10MPH out of it, but it will probably pick up more problems, especially for £350. It might last you without much work, but who knows? Judging on mine, it will need some work doing at some point.

Rookie Biker is right, they will hit 45-50 derestricted (mate had one), might as well keep it restricted for the sake of a couple of months mate to save the hassle. I hear Jogs are a pig to derestrict, as I believe they have something done to the CDI/Ignition as well as the usual exhaust and variator restrictors.

I've got one, and its the best handling scoot I've ridden. Had no problems except the onboard LCD clock resetting itself now and again, and having to change the brakepads quite often.

I derestricted it myself - only a washer in the gearing, but you will probably need a new exhaust if you want to derestrict it, because the restiction is actually the width of the downpipe.

The electronic restriction is actually a rev limiter. You don't need to toutch it unless you fit a 70 kit, only time you'll feel it is going flat out down a hill - it stops you going over about 55.

As I say, they handle really well, I can lean mine over to the point where the stand is scraping, quite comfortably. They're a comfy scoot too, and extremely light.

Is it a Jog-R or a Jog-RR? The RR is liquid cooled, and will have a higher top end, and retails for a few hundred quid more than the R. I've ridden both, and the only noticeable difference is the noise.

I'd say go for it, and that is an extremely good price Thumbs Up

If you want any more info just ask, I've had pretty much all the ped apart in the year I've had it, to play with various bits and pieces. Not because it's gone wrong, just to clean it and fit aftermarket bits etc.

I was referring to the RR, should have pointed that out. I was under the impression it was the fastest, as the online literature i have read indicates that it produces more power than the aerox, which can hit an indicated 60.
Though i'm hardly going to argue with members of the forum who have ridden one lol.

My bad, not having ridden the RR I wouldn't be in a postion to comment. If they run an Aerox engine they're probably at least as good, but I don't imagine they'd hit 60, ever. Mr. Green

RR will keep up with an aerox easy, and will give some 50cc crossers a good run for their money too. Despite it being quick and £200 less than the aerox, you hardly see any about though Confused

My speedfight reaches an "indicated" 60 every day, i put the word "indicated" in my posts because i know how iffy speedos are, so whether they'll ever hit 60 is a bit of an unknown.

Going by the 10% rule, you can expect a decent 50.

I had a Sonic GP50, and had 59mph out of that. They have the Minerelli LC engine (same as the aerox) but are much lighter (79kg I think). I was a little lad back then so that helped too.
