Interesting article from MoneySavingExpert.com, probably more relevant to cars than bikes but what the hey...

Basic jist - Government MOT stations exist to test council vehicles, but have to be open to the public as well. As they don't do repairs they may be a lot more inclined to pass a vehicle than to find imaginary faults.

There's one down in Trostre, not too far from me, I might have a ride down to see if they will do bikes as well.
