Whats an NSR125 worth?

Hi Guys

, this is my first post.
Im 16 and would like a m'cycle for when I turn 17 in Early February 2006. I've scraped 1500 togeather over the school holidays working 10 hour shifts Shocked

. Im thinking a honda NSR 125 would be nice Wink

and I've been told it's very reliable compared to the aprilia/cagiva 125s. Is this a resonable amount for a nsr125 ... any other ideas on bike choice Question

Erm I'm also intrested in where people are getting there insurance as im getting online quotes in the region on 1000pounds Evil or Very Mad

...which seems a lot to me for 125 even if I will only be 17.

Oh and I have no idea what mileage i should be looking for... Question

I'm sure you could find a nice NSR for £1,500. They are excellent bikes. I have used mine for commuting to university, winter through to summer aswell as for going for rideouts aswell.

As for insurance, you should ring up. I was getting online quotes of about £1000 TPO, but I rung around, got quotes and they just got lower and lower. I finally ended up paying £450 for my insurance TPO.

NSRs are 4 stroke as opposed to 2 stroke, used by Aprilia RSs, Mitos, Derbis, most other Supersport 125s. The upside being the reliability is infinitely better on an NSR, and the downside being it doesn't go as fast and won't get there as quickly.

I reckon an NSR is one of the better 2 strokes you can get actually, they seem more reliable than most.

i had a go on nsr recently that someone had bought for £500 (p reg).

It felt more practical for general riding than my rs125. More upright seating postion, power at low revs for easier pulling away every few minutes in town, but it didnt have the high rev power of the rs125 that is useful on faster roads.

As rookie biker didnt know it was a 2 stroke, dont believe him when he says its gonna be more reliable than an rs. He will probably also say that the Honda badge also protects it from previous neglectful owners.

I'd been lead astray somewhere as I always thought it was a 4 stroke, there you go. As it is one of the more reliable 2 strokes, maybe that's what made me think it was, as generally speaking they are not, which was my point.

the wise man of this forum, kickstart has said in the past that the nsr and rs are both as reliable as each other.

He said that the rs tends to have more problems with the engine, and the nsr has more problems with the electrics.

I wd tend to take his word over the word of rookie biker .
He isnt nicknamed the oracle without reason.

But this is squabbling over details. The main thing is a 2 stroke like a nsr is gonna be loads more fun than a possibly more reliable cbr125.

Not just cos of the pwoer, but cos the bike is designed to handle speed a lot better and handles better even at low speeds.

You should be able to pick a good one up for £1500. Mines in excellent mechanical nick and currently going for £1300 on ebay.

If you would be prepared to consider an older NSR then mine may be for sale in around Feb 2006.

The NSR and the RS are both as reliable as one another providing you keep them serviced and use top quality 2t oil.

As for the insurance try Carol Nash, they have knocked £200 off of a quote i got from last month,, although i'm 18 and have 1 years ncb, don't know if that will help.

Good luck when looking for the NSR, they are sweet.
