Is it worth buying an alarm for my motorcycle? Or is it just a waste of money! My bike already has an Oxford Immobiliser!

Yeah its worth it. I got a cheetah one off ebay for 20 quid and i cant live without it.

Whever i leave my bike for a few mins *chirp*, keeps the chavs away because its sensitive and loud as fuck.
Better than a chain in some respects because if im nearby, ie in a house and i hear it, i can go and break their necks before they have stolen it.

Good if you don't garage your bike, but also good for insurance premiums, if you buy a good one and have it fitted. Thumbs Up

Entirely up to you, but my mates bandit has a fitted insurance approved alarm (not sure which one). It was expensive and its shit compared to mine. You can punch the bike and it wont go off.

Mine has an immobilizer, good range and very sensitive and loud, i dont see the point in paying any more for one, what will you gain apart from a small insurance discount.

The cheap ones are probably going to cause you problems after a while, also they won't discount your insurance.

I would go to a proper one like 'Meta' or 'Datatool'.

I have a Meta Delta3 which is an alarm and immobiliser which the dealer fitted for me. It is thatcham1 approved and works very well. The only problems with these, which I have heard is that if you get your key fob totally soaked, then the bike will not start. If I am going a long way, I put the spare control in my pocket as well. So It wouldn't be a problem.
It saves on the insurance and is a good move to get one if your bike is worth more than £1000 quid I would think.

Insurance usually takes £10 or so off for a decent alarm.

I got a cheap one off ebay. As I installed it I know how to take it out off the loop as well.

Had to play with wiring on the TRX a bit as it's got a bit of an odd system. Now that I've sorted that, I'm hoping the remote start is going to help me be even lazier.

Personally, I'd go for a cheap one.

Thumbs Up So unless you're keeping your bike for a long time you will not make the cost of the alarm back on savings in insurance.

As said would recommend a cheap alarm. If you need to leave bike outside a lot then maybe a more expensive one.

The Sola-larm gets good reviews. Don't know much about the £45 one though. As an addition to your immobiliser M&P do the PageAlert which might be of more use (although cost a bit more than the £45 alarm).

HTH Thumbs Up

The Sola-Larm is what i have (£110 one). is a great alarm+immobiliser.

only problem i had was if you have a flat battery when you deactivate the alarm it makes funny noises. apart from that. Thumbs Up great alarm.

i would definatly recomend one but get it pro fitting and lower insurance

I have a factory fitted meta alarm on my zxr, im told its like a 200 pound one or something, not sure how true. Any ways the immobilizer works brilliantly.

The alarm is also rather good, there was a huge thunderstorm over here which was making windows rattle and it didnt set off.
But when i tried to take the fairing pannel off i managed just about one bolt before it went off. Also polishing my exhaust set it off. Doing up a headlight bolt also set it off, its very loud and scares the crap out of me when i know its there, so someone who doesnt know its there wud probably shit themselves.

I certianly can, i got that one, but with an immobiliser unit as well, have used it for few years no problem. And it is a catagory 2 thatcham approved so my insurer said. Make sure tho when you put it on that the main connections, power etc are soldered on, i stoched locked it at first and after year it went crazy lol reinstalled it on new bike with soldered connectors and its fine.
