my cbr400 isnt restricted, i dont think the old bill would go threw the hassle of stripping the bike,, just ask for the papers saying so...

to be honest i think most of them dont even understand the law on 33bhp.. ul find most of the time if you get stopped they wont even ask about it.

its the same for me, i dont really get pulled often just the 2 times once on the restricted 750 i show them the paper they laughed and then left. the problem comes when u have an accident and then if anybody is hurt i htink they would take your bike away and look to see if they are there, then u might be up on some serius charge, i dont see anything wrong with it morroly however as long as you have a lot of self controll and dont intend to open it up in a 30 zone and end up going 150 Smile good luck with making your mind up though.

Thumbs Up

As far as I know the police can only strip the engine if your involved in an accident (maybe with fatalities?). I have the restrictor plate for my bike but its not fitted at the moment, plus im not on that powerful a bike anyway. Its up to you whether you risk it or not I guess.

I took mine out after a week of having the CBR600F its an easy job and it makes it feel like a diffrent bike!!

The only way to get caught is to caught above 112mph but you would be fu#ked anyway.

There is no way that the police would get your bike and put it on a dyno, so if you have the certificate for the insurance its all good.

The police could want to inspect your bike, but for that to happen you'd need to find a cop who actually knows/cares about 33bhp rules. If you've got the certificate to show them then that should be sufficent if you were to be asked about 33bhp.

They can check your bike, you don't have to be doing above 112mph and you don't have to be involved in a fatal accident. Rolling Eyes

I've tried finding people who actually work at the DVLA who understand the 33bhp rules, and spent ages on Hold, there is apparently a guy who lives under the stairs that knows something about it...

If you ring, try asking them about pre 1980 bikes or sidecars, you'll chuckle yourself silly, albeit wasting your phone bill.

The only downside I can see is that if your involved in an accident, and your bike gets carted away to be investigated, then your not going to have a chance to put the little washers back in, your insurance will be invalid, and you'll get strung up at least financially

It depends, if you were involved in an accident and someone was seriously hurt or killed, then the bike checked by an expert and you would get done. For being unlicenced, uninsured etc..
They wouldn't dyno, they would take of the pipes and look for the restrictors. You would probably get at least 6 points and loose your full licence. If there was a serious accident you would be in some real pickle as you were waiting in court.

If you were stopped for a spot check, then they wouldn't have a clue if you had took the restriction out.

You're not uninsured if you're not restricted, but if you crash, expect a serious fine, a good few points or a ban, and if you're not banned, a whacking great premium the next year.

l,ve owned 7 big bikes while on my 33bhp from 250cc to 1000cc that have all been full power (including my 145bhp thunderace), on every single bike l,ve been stopped at lest once by the police either for random checks or a bollocking for speeding. 33bhp has never been mentioned, the police generally don’t know or care.

l do have some rubber piping for the throttle cable just incase Wink
