Hi, I have a Datatool System 3 alarm on my Bandit and I am having major problems.

Me and my dad are trying to fix it, here are the symptons -

- After alarm activates when key removed from ignition (double beep) the alarm goes off nearly straight away.

- The indicators do not flash when the alarm is activated/deactivated and they do not flash when the alarm goes off

- The bike is totally imobilised even when the button is pressed and the key is inserted in the ignition.

We have tried -

- Replacing the inline fuse.

- Letting the alarm go off fully for 30 seconds.

- Making sure it wasn't in sleep mode.

- Pressing the buttons to disarm it!

I cannot use the bike untill this is fixed and the bike is my only form of transportation, please help!

Thanks, Ed.

No help I'm afraid:

As Datatool's are fitten by an 'official' center, people don't generally get to know how they're wired.

Might be worth googling for them and seeing if there's an offical service place near you that can help.

Contact Datatool on 0870 165 2414 and talk to a technician.

Did you set the PIN number when you got it?

There's some convaluted way of starting it using the fuse and the ignition, based around the pin number... might be worth a try.

Have you tried the other alarm fob?

does the alarm react to the key fob?

The alarm can be set so the indicators don't flash, did they ever flash?

If they did you either have a dodgy positive or earth connection to the alarm unit.

Yes, the did used to flash.

I am doing a full reset at the moment anyway, disconnected the alarm and leaving it for 6 hours.

Won't work as it's not the problem.

It will take more than 6 hours to drain the internal battery and the problem is the power supply to the alarm as when it doesn't have one the indicators don't flash.

What can I do then? (Besides taking it to a dealer)

Check the power connections to the alarm. Is the fuse getting power?

If not it's the earth from the alarm to the frame.
