Hi,

I've had a roof boxer helmet for about a year now and I just wanted to warn anyone thinking of buying one- DON'T.

Its probably been the worst thing I ever bought in terms of price/quality ratio. Its not a cheap lid and it looks nice at first glance but on close inspection the quality is a joke. I've used it everyday and after less than a year its done. The visor scratches really easily and one of the stupid little tabs that holds the chin guard down has snapped off.... I looked at the other one and it has stress marks in the plastic so that one is gonna go soon as well. It also steams up worse than any helmet I've ever seen and annoyingly you have to open the chin guard in order to put it on.

Its a rediculously bad helmet. Stay clear.

I know of several people who have various roof lids, including the Boxer, who have nothing but praise for them.

I'd not advise anyone doesn't buy them, but read the coments and make a decision based on that Smile

Quite a few bits fell off my top of the range Arai.

My shoei also steams up really, really badly, to the point I can't ride with it fully closed.

Have the Shoei is an excellent fit for and has appeared to protect may head well enough once.

Shoei do some visors (possibly only the race visors with the tabs for tear offs) with a mist resistant coating on the inside. This seems to work quite well.

All the best

Yes, my new Shoei has it. Top marks to it Thumbs Up.
At snetterton the surrounding to the pinlock bit was totally opaque, but the pinlock insert was perfectly clear.

Best thing to do to stop your visor fogging up is to rub a little fairy liquid on the inside of it. Then wipe off the excess. It will stop it fogging up for about 3 or 4 days. Very Happy

I bought a Caberg helmet for £130. Lightweight, doesn't steam up, nothing has fallen off it yet. So far so good.

My mid range AGV (AirTech, £150) has an anti fog coating... Only starts to steam if you're at a standstill, with vents and visor full closed and breathing heavy, goes as soon as you get above 5mph...

The paintwork has chipped a tiny bit, but there are 0% scratches on the visor and everything else is well intact Smile

I tried a ROOF lid on yesterday. Found the fit to be very good. Snug all over and no pressure spots anywhere. Seems nice but a lot of money when HJC lids are now going for under the ton.

Surely putting fairy liquid on the visor will be very dangerous riding in to sun - in that it creates a layer on the visor which isn't a smooth surface, so distorts sunlight?

You can buy a spray from shops, I've never bothered though, ust ride with the visor half a notch open - like the breeze anyway.

I've not an N510V - and it is on its last legs. Both visors are scratched to hell, neither of them have an anti-fog coating, so i installed a fog city(top marks to fog city - works bloody well!) and as for the paint, it is a mess. and the visor release clips have broken due to changing the tinted and clear visors over. Maybe i'm just abusive to my helmet Confused

Brilliant lid no steaming up recomend them to anyopne also cuts wind noise dramatically!

Had my Roof helmet for acouple of months now. No problems to report. No vizor steam ups, chin connections fine, No scratches on the vizor. I guess it depends how you treat it Wink
Oh and I know it's subjective but damb, it's the best, most snug fitting helmet I've ever worn.

Oh and wind noise....What wind noise?

the fit on my roof helmet is nice, its just the finish that has been disappointing. Especially considering the price.

to the people that have roof lids and like them: have any of you got a boxer? (the one with the flip up front). From my personal experience I don't see how anyone could like them. Maybe their other helmets are better...

To be fair I have used the helmet daily (on and off my bike a few times a day as well) for a year, but the fasteners have literally worn out, they're made of cheap plastic thats developed hairline cracks and stress marks to the point where one snapped clean off. I hope mine is a one off, but generally I think the lid is flawed, if you need a helmet for everyday use think carefully before buying Thumbs Up

The fairy liquid made my visor more reflective when i got my helmet, so it was like looking at a CD surface. Nice blinding rainbow. Not only that, it's anti-fog properties were somewhat lacking...
