New Fazer Height Adjustment

I've had my new Fazer for two weeks and have realised that it is a little too high for me - probably needs to be adjusted down by an inch or so. Whilst my dealer has offered to do it at the first 600 mile service, I'm not sure I can wait that long!! How do you adjust the height (preferably without adjusting the tyre pressures) and is it an easy thing to do for someone with little mechanical ability!!
