Hi,

Yesterday I finally picked up a restricted CB500 and have been having a lot of fun on it in the last 24 hours. I am genuinely surprised by how much faster it is than my old 125. To be honest I thought it was gonna rip my arms off first time I gave it a bit of beans!

Well what I want to know is as it's restricted I assume that the fuel flow to the engine is being limited in some way, so if I give it full revs what effect is this having on the bike? I've heard about problems with spark plugs on restricted bikes and just want to know that I'm not damaging it by revving the arse off it every time I pull away from the lights. I'm sure in a few days I'll have got over the thrill but then again... Very Happy

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

GH.

Never heard of any problems on any bikes. It restricts both air and fuel flow does it not thus keeping the same mixture. Confused

Few days to get over the thrill? I give you 2 weeks before the restrictors are in the bin. Laughing

Depends on how it is restricted..

At the throttle?

At the airbox (requireing rejeting, could mess with plugs e.t.c.)

At the intake (reduceing the mixture, but the mix is correct, so should be ok)

On the cdi (not likely)

Many people have the restriction removed, only a tiny chance of being caught but i suspect they might start putting the hammer down at some point (due to it being done so commnly)

When the bike is restricted it limits the ammount of air/fuel mixture, not air or fuel alone. This means that the combustion is just as efficient as it would be on an unrestricted bike, but the initial intake pressure of the fuel/air mixture is a lot lower. This means that compression is reduced, however it remains in proportion to the induction pressure thanks to the compression ratio.

The redline is therefore a reason.

Think of it as a target in every gear Thumbs Up
