On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.

We have a tutor at uni thats car obsessed. I think I've seen this one last year in lesson, if it's the one where he's "speeding through paris cause he's late to meet his girlfriend" it is definately impressive in places.

Fucking dangerous though.

I liked this one a lot. The car isn't exactly fast by today's standards, but the speed at which it took some corners! Shocked

Yea sounds ace, especially when he's downshifting. Very nice. Thumbs Up

Ending was sweet. Ahhhh. Wouldn't have been so nice if he'd ended up in a bloody mess though, lol. And I wonder how many pigeons he took out. Laughing

Personally I'd have found it funnier if he got out the car on a slight down-hill, left the handbrake off, gone to the front to get all cuddly with his bird and then *oomph Shocked* promptly gets flattened by his nice shiny car Wink

Its a brilliant film, shows some brilliant 'heel and toeing' on the down changes too, and that noise is erotic. Smile

the sound effects are great.
the problem is that its a vid of someone out for a bimble round town.
with the camera that low it should look like a rocket ship.
also look at the leasurly way he passes other traffic.
not going fast.

They arent sound effects. It might seem odd, but its taken from old film and sound doesnt transfer to digital format nicely.

I've never seen anyone go for a bimble while heel-and-toeing before, nor thrashing it around corners and going through red lights.

The camera probably isnt as low as you think, but check out the way the white lines are passing in places. He's doing a fair speed.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about "leasurly" passing traffic. Again I refer to the 'going through red light' sections.

If he's not going that fast, then I'll pay for you to go to france and do it faster Smile

I might be sounding funny, but to be fair, the chap is in an old car which isnt easy to drive and afaik using proper racing technique. It's all too easy to say "nah, it's not that great" - but what you forget is that even rookie racing takes a hell of a lot of skill. More so than your average boy-racer, atleast.

Just my 2$
