Hi all,
I have just had the pleasure of riding my girlfriends newly purchased VFR400 from Brisbane where the bike was purchased, home to Sydney. A very nice 1000k trip over two days.
VFR's are starting to become popular here in Australia, and more are being imported all the time. But from all the research I have done, looks like you Brits are the biggest fans of them. Anyway, the gearbox.
No problems except when ridden really hard (as it was on some windy hilly bits on the way home Very Happy ). It has a bit of a habit of jumping out of 2nd, into neutral requiring a shift back to 1st, and then up into 2nd again. Also sometimes happens between 2nd to 3rd. Every other gear was fine, and the rest of the bike is perfect. In fact, it is one of the best bikes I have ridden, and I own an '01 GSXR750. I really want to sell it now, and buy an RC30
Is this a common problem with NC30 gearboxes? All advice appreciated.

Thanks
Andrew

NC30 gearboxes aren't too great, but I haven't had any problems with false neutrals or jumping out of gear. Honda gearboxes are notoriously notchy, especially when jumping from a Suzuki. I find a good positive action usually results in the best changes and clutchless changes when on song seem to give the best results (down changes are pretty bad though).

A lack of cush drive on the little V4s makes the problem worse I find; riding my mate's CB1 (and my previous CBR400) the gearbox seemed much better/smoother.

Glad you enjoy the V4 mate, being one of the best bike ever produced expect to see more of them. Wink Thumbs Up
Think Craig got it in one there, I have noticed when I do blast the thing up to 13-14K on rev range and get a bit of pace going with the box in twisty’s it wont like it.
