Thanks Craig

Believe it or not I am replacing the 749 with this, at least for now, - an nc30 just offers a brilliant little package, and i only paid about a ninth of the value of the 749 for it!!

Although it is a very presentable bike, I intend to take it to the track , and a european mountains tour next year, so I have stripped it, giving it a right good going over and full servicem then will go tazzing about on it!
should be a couple of weeks or so Razz

£750 for this one, hardly expensive! I have been involved in buying 3 others in my time (one was my earlier one, now belongs to partner) for £1000 a piece

just go bargain hunting people!

Are the VFR400 still in production? Only the CBR400's are stopped is it?

Nope, VFR400s cancelled production in 1994, replaced for 2 years by the RVF400. You can find some later registered bikes (think I've seen ones as late a '52 regs) but they are no different - just later registered, not manufactured. Last of the line of the CBR400s was the Gullarm, think this stopped production around the mid-late '90s as well.

Surprising how good these 400s still are, despite all versions being over 9 years old.

As far as I know. They discontinued the ZXR400 last year or so as well.

Not the ZXR400, but the ZZR400. The former is a sports bike while the latter is a sports-tourer...

Yep, that's what I meant, think the ZXR was the last in the line of sports/faired 400s. Didn't think they were still making the ZZR up until recently? (600/1100/1200 excluded).

Well, somebody who recently bought a ZZR400 93' model defended himself saying that the ZZR400's are still being made and SO, parts-availability won't be that problematic. But, I won't really know.

Now, if they stop ALL sports 250s and 500s, what exactly do they wan't the beginners to start on? I thought it was very risky for a beginner to start on something like an R6. So, what are their options?

Just to know...

I didn't realise parts for other 400s are so difficult to come by, it's just a case of knowing the market and understanding what you want. I would have thought getting parts for a ZXR400 is so much easier than that of a ZZR400 as the ZXR was officially imported into the country.

As for the learner issues, there's still a fair few viable alternatives. Firstly, most 400s would be second hand now, which I believe is a better foundation for any newbie biker - less value, less insurance, depreciation has mostly gone, nicely run in, yadda, yadda, yadda. I'd recomend unfaired 400s over sports 400s to new riders though; far easier to control, not as expensive, cheaper to run and insure, less damage done in the event of a spill...

Other new bikes on the market that offer a good basis for newbie riders: BMW F650, Ducati Monster 620, Honda CBF600/250, Kawasaki ER5/GPZ500, Suzuki SV650, Bandit 650, GS500....Maybe even the Hornet/Fazer route, or a Supermoto?

I'd buy a second hand good example of an NC30 over all of those though Neutral

But... I live in India, and most imports here are 600 and above. Its so hard to find a beginner bike here. The only option is to jump from a 17bhp bike made in india to the 100+ bhp one...

You had provided a pretty extensive list... I will search for them... Thanks! Smile

Believe it or not the nc30 is a better handling bike than the 749 (road use anyway), and can still embarrass many a sportsbike on the corners.... ok it lacks a bit in low down grunt, but just wait until i have done the 500cc bore...

seriously though I decided that the 749 is wrong for me, i say the 748 is a far better handling bike.

the nc30 though is a peach with all things considered including the amount of time i actually get to ride, a better bike in the uk for me at the moment!
