Can't find a bike - any suggestions?

I've been looking and looking for a 2 stroke Gilera Runner SP 125 , preferably local to me but if not then able to deliver.

Have tried:

Adtrader

Google
Local paper
Local dealers
Here, Visordown and other forums

Is there anywhere else I've missed?

What about adverts in shop windows, (like news agents etc) down in haverhill bikes are always popping up here there and just about everywhere, every week.

Other than that i think you have covered all of the places i would look.

Keep forgetting to look as I leave Tesco's.

Left my details with a dealer today, but some of the prices these dealers charge are way over the top. I saw one with 14k on clock, '01 model for £1500 at dealer. In the paper one went 2 years old with warranty left and only 7k for £800.

I have money waiting just gotta find a bike!

Dealers will always sell a bike higher than what its worth regardless of mileage.

My dad has a 1998 Yamaha Fazer with 6500 miles on the clock and the best price he can get to part exchange it is £1500.

Why limit yourself to one scooter?

And why just the 2 strokes?

The 4 strokes are much the same and do the same speed, most of the time.

Look around, there are much better 125cc scoots out there.

Why not extend your search radius by 100 miles, when you find one, rent a van, buy some tie downs (or use rope, cheapskate ) and bring it back with you? That's what I did, and it cost me about £70 inc. diesel.

Agree. There's a good ped section in the "What bike" publication, lists every ped and bike sold in the uk (well, heard of makes anyway )

I've searched nationally, and only then are there some, but not many offer nationwide delivery and I'm not sure I wanna buy a bike without seeing it first. But could travel and collect bike if I saw a decent one close enough

I've heard good things about the Runner, and if it means I have to go for the (slower but more economical) 4T then I might do that.

Found some VX125's nationally '03 with low mileage and warranty remaining for about £1400

Watch out for the warranties, I had to go to court after buying a ped with warranty. Won though.

I went about 100 miles to get mine, went in the car (£10 in petrol) put down a deposit, came back the next week in the van (£45 for hire, £20 for diesel, uncomfortable ride home as I didn't trust the rope. )

It worked well for me, and I got a good deal, made I profit when I sold it.

Runners seem to be the only ped round here that gets pretty much unanimous praise.

Well make sure the warranty is valid. I bought mine as being advertised with 2 years warranty left, me being the 2nd owner, and had it for a year. Being a first-time buyer, I didn't know what the hell was going on and didn't ask for the documents. Next thing I know, ped is broken and warranty doesn't exist. I waited 6 months for the settlement, and got £330 out of them, that being the original cost. Basically the warranty will remain when the ped changes hands, but make sure it exists in the first place!
