Hello, this is a really big ask:

I just won a bike on Ebay, it's a supermoto. I live in Bournemouth and the bike is 160 miles away in Newport Pagnell. Is there anyone out there with a trailer, a car and some time to spare this saturday to help me pick it up?

All I can offer is petrol money, a create of beer (or small amount of money) and if you'd like to take the opportunity visit Bournemouth, a blow up matress in my spare room.

If you haven't got any of the above but know about supermotos (this one is a '94 XR600), can they handle motorways for that kind of distance without going KABOOM?!?

Many thanks, and apologies for posting this blatantly personal request in General Chat. Thumbs Up

Would have thought an XR would be ok for motorways, or at least duel carrigeway A roads.
Just try not to sit at top wack all the way.

They are fairly decent road bikes as far as I know - they are made for enduros where they could easily be used for 3 hours or a lot more pretty continuosly (look at what some on the Paris Dakar get put through!).

If I were you, Id take out insurance with break down cover the day before as they will cover you with insurance same day, but breakdown cover starts next day.
This way you can either ride it home, with confidence or pretend its broken and have the recovery vehicle take it home for you.

Its unlikely the recovery vehicle will try to fix it, usually they just take it home for you.

When i bought my bike, i attempted to ride it home but i broke down outside a bloke who happened to have a bike trailer ! He took me home for a small fee. Lucky or what !?

Nice one, thanks for the replys!

I'll give it a go on the open roads, luckily my folks live in the middle so if anything I can give the bike (and my neck) a break if need be!

I think it'd be just fine for 160 miles, that's only just over a tankfull. Agreed, don't sit at top whack all the way home.

And it's another good shout to get insurance with free breakdown cover sorted for when you go to get it.

I had to call recovery from a bemsee round at snetterton when the XJ wouldn't start. Said it had a spark, had petrol, just wouldn't start.

He assumed no compression, or something else dire and put it straight on the back of the truck. Ride home in a nice warm truck.

Does claiming breakdown affect your insurance?

Nope. Break down with insurance is more like a 'point of sale' thing; the insurance cmpany gets a few pennies extra if they sell another product. Just like when you buy some new shoes, you can't go to the till without the till person saying "would you like to buy some protective spray" with that?

Incidentally, I used to do 125mile rides on my klr650 quite regularly (sometimes with no stops at all - well apart from traffic lights Smile ).
KLR650 is quite road biased though.

Have easily done 150 miles or so in a day on the DR600.
