Honda XR125L offroading / green laning

Well what can i say!

I bought my first motorbike a Honda XR125L for round the town and commuting to work which is only 5 minutes down the road.

After riding for 2 to 3 weeks or so i thought ok lets see if the XR can handle the green laning etc. Was i surprised at how good this bike was and what she can really do! At first she had problems with the hills as in 1st was too much and spun the tyre getting nowhere and 2nd just conked out on me regardless of how high i revved her. Anyway £7 later and a new front sprocket with 15 teeth as opposed to the standard 17 sorted this out a trick. Fair enough my top speed has dropped from just over 70 down to just over 60 mph now, but what the hey i don't go anywhere to go fast.

My opinion this bike is an excellent bike off and on road use. I have many hours of fun with her and she goes and goes and goes. The more you thrash this engine the more it opens up and gives you more...excellent very glad i bought Honda.

South East Kent is an excellent place packed FULL of legal green laning track. These being publiv byways (which i am led to beleive by my local Honda shop) is perfectly legal to drive along. Many thanks goes to the Romans who invaded kent and created these byways that still exist today.

Any one else got any stories about green laning or the Honda XR125 then please share.

I have ridden my 4t mz 125 supermoto off road, about 10 miles on green lane tracks, it was great, way pokey enough for it, especially with dunlop gt road tyres on!

It's good to hear that you're satisfied.
I'm also XR125L 05' owner. The one thing what I'm worried about is rear damper. This seems to soft. How it's with you..
If I didn't read it out, can you please then tell me what top speed have you reached?

I have removed the standard front (17 teeth) sprocket and put on a 15 teeth sprocket and as a result mine now tops out at 60, before it gave me 70 - 75 mph.

i have more bottom end torque now though and much better for green laning :-]

Hello folks, new to this (especially off roading etc), just passed my CBT today (very pleased with myself! other than the stall I did on the mother of all hills whilst leading a tailback!) and am after a 125 I can learn my trade on that will also handle some rough stuff. From what I've read the xl sounds like the beast for me!
Hope nobody minds me posting this here, but what should I look out for in second hand xl's and also being 5'8'' am I likely to have any trouble with the high seats of these type of bikes (reading the UBG they seem to have the lowest seat height of a trialie.)
Any other beginnery hints and tips as well as recommendations and other xl info would be HUGELY beneficial and appreciated.

hi, i have recently bought a honda xr125l, i was supprised by the performane and handling of the 125cc four stroke. A Honda xr is an all round good first bike, i can't say enough about it 10 out of 10.
