..you pass something on the road, realising you've missed it by about an inch, and that if you hit it, it would have taken you clean off your bike? Happened to me last night, riding along at about 50mph on a dual carriageway, not great street lighting, and saw what looked like a rock in the road... only saw it as I passed it! Anyone experienced something similar?

I was riding along at a generous 70mph on the M25 the other week, when a guy on his bike was stopped on the hard shoulder. Didn't see him in time to pull over. I felt really bad. The junctions were too far away to turn around though. Sad

Not quite the same, but I just wanted to say Sorry. Sad

sort of..

Expecting to see more tree bits on the road soon, and ice and gravel and other fun stuff...

If you can't see whats in front of you in time to stop then you need to go slower/get a brighter headlight!

Yeah….

My advice is, keep the handle bars straight as possible and hope for the best if you are defiantly too late to swerve.
You have to be a quick thinker, an animal such as hedgehog, cat, dog, won’t give you much jip if you just plough straight into it.
Do not think you have to swerve, you are more important!Thumbs Up

Rocks are difficult but tyres usually slip sideways so the same applies.
Is freaky though sometimes with very poor street lighting.

Yes , probably why I love night riding , many others around here do too , probably why I have to stop quite often to see if I can help (I spotted a triumph with side car stuck nearby last week which was older than me with some bust fuses)

Yes this is why I dont like going on unlit roads in the dark.

I reckon unlit roads where you are less likely to see crap on the road, is at least as dangerous as going 30mph over the speed limit, probabkly more.

and there was someone walking along at the side of the road!!

there is a pub about a mile up the road

Once missed a hare by about an inch, I was going down a steep hill and this thing rocketed out of the hedge, on come the brakes and it skips past the front wheel..lucky git.

Then there was a plastic bottle whihc was still mostly full of water, saw it in OK time and just swerved around it, I'm sure that could have been nasty.

And then there was the body in a ditch, saw his shoe poking out onto the side of the road, stopped, shook him and was about to call 999 when he stirred, turns out he had left a barn dance hammered and fallen in the hedge! Confused

i hit a 3'x3'x5' cardboard box on an unlit dual carridgeway at about 95mph on my tzr125 a couple of years ago, hit it bang in the middle. didnt even have enough time to brake, just sat up and braced against the bars. scared the life out of me, luckily there was nothing in it apart from some polystyrene, and it burst open when i hit it

I ran over a saw today. Didn't see it until it was too late. Luckly it did no damage and no cars were around when it flicked up into the air. Shocked

It's normally drunkards and smack-heads round here. The headlights tend to startle them off the road though.

Had one of those stiff wire rings from inside a weel trim bounce up at me today after the car in front hit it. Luckilly I was on 4 wheels today, not 2.

Could've been nasty.
