I will refuse to have one. Outright.

I'd rather be dead through speeding than policed into submission and live for 50 years longer. Evil or Very Mad

It won't be for speeding, it will be for taxing. Even if the article was about stopping people speeding, it wouldn't be, MCN lie through their teeth.

Hi

Quite likely to happen, and has been known about for quite a while. Mainly being pushed through by the company that stands to make money from them.

Just for general tracking of vehicles, and the government way of looking at it will be that it is no different to displaying a numberplate.

Suspect a bloody great magnet will fry it. Trouble is that they will probably put some totally OTT punishment in place for disabling them, or just stop any petrol station from serving you with a non functioning tag.

All the best

Keith

What are the bets that should you want the police etc. to use such technology to locate your stolen vehicle, it would suddenly be far too much like hard work and a breach of the thiefs civil liberties.

Passive transponder chips are remarkably intolerant of microwave radiation due to them having a very fine, copper induction coil built into them. A pathetically small amount of time in a microwave (matter of a couple of seconds) renders them completely inoperable.

In a sense though, it could be one way to stop the spate of "cloning" that has been going on recently, with numberplates having to be made specifically from a government funded (taxes) numberplate manufacturer?

Just a thought.

Why not just make prisoners make them like they do in the USA?

Nope, this is one likely to be done first in the UK and then foistered on the rest of Europe by Brussels. And I suspect you will live more than 10 years so probably in your life.

There's money to be made from this and its not from finding stolen bikes or cars. The GPS system will be the next step in monitoring your every move and it too will be cloaked in some disguise as a "for the good of all" or anti terrorist legislation that will easlily win over the TV heads who believe everything the news tells them.

Nah, this scheme has been around for ages, long before MCN got hold of it.

Unusual for me to throw salt on the wean's slide.
But what a load of shite!
If they, the government, need to track vehicles the means is out there already.
VED disc,
Insurance,
Paying for fuel with plastic,
DVLA documents.
etc.
Is a chip going to make you more conspicuous?
Naaaa!
May be another way to monitor theft of your pride and joy though.

And another thong, MCN published some tosh a month or two back that Ghost Rider would be attending some show. Oooooo I'm scared. Like they know who he is. My arse they do. Coz he's meee Twisted Evil And I would nae go. Laughing

If these become compulsary, I'd rather we were allowed to fit them ourselves. Hide it somewhere on the bike, and if it was small enough, they'd be able to track the vehicle in case of theft.

Only IF they become compulsary, though, of course.

How is fitting a number plate with the chip going to cut down on thefts? Do you think the thief is stupid enough to leave it on? 2 bolts and off it goes, such a deterrant Rolling Eyes

Plus how long will it take for someone to (criminal) to get a reader? shouldnt be to hard to copy your bikes details just by walking past (cloning) or perhaps get your name and address from it then break in later.

Dont tell me their will be safe guards there are always safe guards and they never work after some time.

I meant fit the chip somewhere else than the numberplate, somewhere it would be hard to find. Under a bit of fairing or something.

i'd just construct a faraday chamber round my numberplate - lead strips above and below it, and a layer of uber fine mesh front and back. Either that or i make my own numberplate from vinyl...

what? like datatag, alphadot and smartwater??

I doubt "show" plates will have them.. since you cant tag every single vehicle in a car showroom too with "GTI" numberplates,... or for "Turbo" plates at carshows.

so burglar bill will just buy some show plates, nick your bike and replace your chip plates with their unchipped "show plates"
