Hello Everyone, first post from me. Be kind please.

I have been thrashing a ZZR600 to work for the last 6 months and have generated an oil leak from behind the front sprocket. I can cope with the oil leak, but the problem seems to be that there is movement of the shaft on which the front sprocket is mounted, allowing the seal to open up and leak. I take it that the bearing is shot and requires replacement, but does anyone know whether it can be replaced without removing and stripping the engine? Also, can this bearing go horribly wrong and consequently endanger my well-being?!
All replies gratefully received,

Richard.

No, it's an engine out and split the cases job

Yes, it could collapse and cause the chain to jump the sprocket and lock the back wheel

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind Wink

Thanks Guest,

Looks like a strip-down job then! How much do you reckon a workshop would charge for this sort of thing? I really can't be arsed to do it myself, I have the knowledge and tools, but I have a Triumph that I'd rather spend my time and grazed knuckles on. I know someone that is interested in the bike, problems and all, so I think it's time he took it on.

Cheeeeeers, Richard.
